“I was skeptical but…I’ll never grill or pan fry a steak ever again. Seriously. Why all that work when it’s so much easier AND tastier AND juicier cooked in an air fryer ????”

-Ashley

I’ve made this air fryer ribeye steak so many times I can’t count! It has become my go to when I want a quick, juicy steak without firing up the grill. The first time I made his favorite cut of steak in the air fryer, my husband was so skeptical. He’s a “grill only” guy, but after one bite, he was hooked. This recipe converted him, and now we make it at least once a week!

Whether you’re making dinner for two or planning a weekend meal with friends, this recipe is a must try. It’s fast, easy, and you can easily pair it with simple sides like Air Fryer Hasselback PotatoesAir Fryer Steak Fries, or Air Fryer Honey Glazed Carrots for a complete dinner.

Ingredients You Will Need

Uncooked ribeye steaks in an air fryer basket with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  • Ribeye Steaks – Boneless or bone in, about 1 to 1.5 inches thick for the best results.

How to Cook Ribeye Steak in the Air Fryer

Uncooked ribeye steaks that have been brushed with oil, salt, and pepper, and placed in the air fryer basket.
  1. Brush the ribeye steak with olive oil, until coated on both sides. Season the steak generously with salt and and black pepper, or your favorite seasonings. Preheat the air fryer basket to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the basket is preheated, place the seasoned steaks in without overlapping.

  1. Air fry at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 16 minutes, flipping halfway through for medium-well doneness. If you are using thinner steaks or thicker steaks, you will need to adjust the cooking time. After air frying, let the steaks rest for 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to settle.

Optional: Top with a pat of garlic butter, cowboy butter or your favorite steak sauce for extra flavor. Serve with your favorite side dish like tender air fryer asparagus or air fryer broccoli. For more ideas, check out our favorite list of air fryer vegetables

Steak Temperature Guide: From Rare to Well Done

Ensuring your steak is cooked to the proper internal temperature is important for both safety and taste. Because the thickness of steak can vary, it’s best to use a digital meat thermometer to confirm your desired level of doneness:

  • Rare: 125 degrees F
  • Medium Rare: 135 degrees F
  • Medium: 145 degrees F
  • Medium Well: 155 degrees F
  • Well Done: 160 degrees F

Expert Tips

  • Use a meat thermometer for perfect doneness. This will help ensure you don’t overcook, which can make the steak tough. Thicker or thinner steak will need time adjusted.
  • Let the steak rest after cooking to lock in those flavorful juices.
  • Adjust the cook time based on steak thickness and your air fryer model.
  • Don’t overcrowd the basket. The air needs to circulate for a perfect sear.

Air Fryer Ribeye Steak FAQs

Do I need to flip the ribeye steak during air frying?

Yes, flipping the steak halfway through helps the steak cook evenly on both sides.

What setting is best for cooking air fryer ribeye?

Because it’s universal, I recommend using the air fry feature. If your air fryer has specific modes like Grill or Broil, you can use those too.

I can’t have Bleu cheese. Any other suggestions to flavor the butter?

    1. Rebecca says:

I just made some garlic and herb butter tonight and it was delicious. You can combine butter with any of your favorite seasonings, or add flavors like basil pesto!

Dude! I was skeptical but…I’ll never grill or pan fry a steak ever again. Seriously. Why all that work when it’s so much easier AND tastier AND juicier cooked in an air fryer ????

    1. Rebecca says:

Thank you! I’m so glad you liked it! It is so much easier than a grill too- especially when it’s 110 degrees outside. Enjoy!

  4. JoAnn Jayson says:

Mine don’t get as brown and I like them to have color- anyone else experience this ?

    1. Jen West says:

It could be your brand of air fryer. We use a Cosori 5.8qt air fryer that is a 1700 watt air fryer. If your air fryer brand cooks at a lower level, say 1400 watts or 1000 watts, you might have to adjust the cooking time accordingly. Hope that helps!

It sounds good , I will have to try

  6. OMAR KNIGHT says:

Oh my goodness I thought to myself how would my airfryer make a juicy ribeye and to my pleasant surprise the steaks were delicious I did use kerrygold garlic butter and it made the steaks juicy, thank you for this recipe.

  7. MsVic says:

How many minutes for medium rare please?

    1. Rebecca says:

I did eight minutes on each side for medium well. Depending on the thickness of your steaks, I would try air frying for a few minutes less on each side. Medium rare should have internal temperature of 135 degrees F. Hope that helps.

  8. Wanda says:

    Are the ribeyes bone-in?

    1. Rebecca says:

The ones I used were not, but I don’t thinknthat would change cooking times. Let us know how they turn out.

  9. Darlene says:

Just wondered when and how you cooked your air fryer pot Oates to go with this?

    1. Darlene says:

      That should say potatoes!!

Surprisingly simple. Very delicious. Was hesitant about the blue cheese sauce, but it topped it perfectly. I’m a big fan. I used Montreal steak seasoning instead of salt and pepper. My own preference. I’m hoping it’s around the same for a sirloin as my wife likes the leanness better than a ribeye. Thanks for the recipe.

      1. Joan Bond says:

How can you let it roast in the juices if you use the air fryer basket. Do you take the steak off the basket and put it in the pan that collects the juice?

        1. Jen West says:

I would collect the juices and place them on a plate, letting the steak rest on the juices and cover with foil for a few minutes if you’re wanting to roast it in the juices before serving.

        2. Sandra says:

Use a liner in the air fryer. You can get liners on Amazon.

          1. Jen West says:

Absolutely! Liners are great to help with cleanup.

I just put aluminum foil or parchment paper down and then put my steak on top of that. All the juices stay on top of the foil or the parchment paper and I let the steak rest there and I add butter too..

      2. Rosa Lee Willis says:

Could you use other cuts of steal?

        1. Rebecca says:

You can use other cuts of meat. We have even made Filet Mignon and it was delicious. Using a meat thermometer will ensure proper internal temperature for preferred doneness.

          1. Jacqueline Cochrane says:

I have 8 oz already seasoned rib eyes so if I want them medium rare how long should I cook them for

          2. Rebecca says:

Hi Jacqueline. I have cooking times and temperature listed for reference. If you don’t already have a meat thermometer, I highly recommend using one. They make air frying SO much easier.

Do I need to let steak come to room temp prior to air fryer? Paid $$$$ for a prime cut ribeye and don’t wanna over cook it.
