Our family just loves French Fries. They are such a versatile side dish, and can be served with any type of meal. Of course, these fries are so good, you will want to serve them with every meal.

What you need to make French Fries in the Air Fryer

I make these French Fries almost every week. They usually get eaten faster than I can make them. I love how they turn out so crispy in my Cosori 5.8 Quart Air Fryer. More importantly, I definitely love how crispy they are, without the grease.

Besides an air fryer, all you will need to make these fries is:

  • Russet Potatoes
  • olive oil
  • salt
  • pepper

Of course, any additional seasonings or sauces, are up to you! We like to dip them in Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing, or ketchup.

How to make Air Fryer French Fries

To make these French Fries, you really only have to follow a few steps. To get started, peel and wash the potatoes. I usually use 3-4 medium Russet Potatoes. Once they are peeled, slice them into strips, about ½ inch in thickness.

Next, place the potato slices into a medium bowl, and add cold water until they are submerged. Let them soak in the water for at least 30 minutes, but if you can wait an hour or two, that will be even better.

Soaking the potatoes removes the starch, which helps them become crispy when they cook. You don't want to skip soaking them, or they may come out soft or soggy.

Once they have finished soaking, drain the water from the bowl. Then add the olive oil to the fries, tossing them until they have all been lightly coated with oil.

Next, place half of the fries in the air fryer basket, without having them touch or overlap. Air fry at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for about 14 minutes, tossing halfway through cooking. You can add an additional minute or two, depending on your preferred crispness.

Repeat the cooking process with the second half of the batch.

FAQ's

How much oil do I need to use for air fryer French Fries?

Because you are making these in the air fryer, you only need to use about one tablespoon of olive oil to make these fries. Just toss the cut pieces until they are coated, and then place them in the basket.

How do I make my fries crispy?

Soaking them in the water will remove the starch, which will help them become crispy while they cook. Then, coating them with a little brushing of olive oil, will help them turn golden as well.

I only air fry half at a time so you don't overcrowd the basket and they cook more evenly.

Hi Bonnie! What type of air fryer do you use? All air fryers cook a bit differently. Your brand of air fryer may not cook as powerful as our brand we use. Our brand we use cooks at 1700 watts. If you're using a smaller air fryer that cooks at let's say 1000 watts, or 1400 watts, you will definitely need to add additional time to this recipe. 🙂 Hope that helps! (That's usually the issue!)

Out of all the recipes saying
to soak cut fries for an hour in water, not one has stated to pat dry potatoes prior to spritzing with oil.
I feel this is an important step and may cause for failure of the fries.
Thank you for clarifying this important step.
