These Air Fryer sweet potato wedges are the perfect side! Crispy and golden brown on the outside, tender and sweet on the inside and seasoned to perfection- they’re an absolute treat for the taste buds.

Serve them as a side with your Air Fryer chicken burgers or team them up with some Air Fryer turkey breast for a simple fall meal.

After the success of my Air Fryer seasoned French fries, I was itching to try something using sweet potatoes. And what could be better than some classic, thick-cut wedges?

In all honesty, these turned out even more delicious than I expected, and it’s safe to say, I’m not going to go back to deep-fried fries ever! In fact, I loved these so much, I also tried making Air Fryer frozen sweet potato fries, which are perfect for rushed weekdays or occasions when I don’t have whole sweet potatoes at hand.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Sweet potatoes: Pick sweet potatoes that have a smooth skin and seem heavy for their size.
  • Seasonings: To season, I used a bit of smoked paprika, ground cinnamon, garlic powder, salt and pepper. You can also add some mixed herbs or my homemade poultry seasoning if you want a bit of extra flavor.
  • Olive oil: To help the seasonings stick to the sweet potatoes and to crisp them up.

See recipe card for quantities.

Variations

  • Try using warm spices like nutmeg and pumpkin pie spice to season these wedges if you’re making these as a holiday side.
  • You can also use other seasonings like curry powder, cayenne pepper, Cajun seasoning. I love using my homemade everything bagel seasoning too!

Serving Ideas & Suggestions

These crispy Air Fryer sweet potato wedges are great to enjoy as a snack along with your favorite dipping sauce. I love paring them with some ketchup and my homemade cheese sauce. And if I’m making them for a party I’m hosting, I like to pair them with my Air Fryer pigs in a blanket, some air fried nachos or my favorite Air Fryer stuffed mini peppers.

They are also a great side to my Air Fryer meatloaf and Air Fryer sausage and peppers. And of course, you can team them up with a nice sandwich or burger too.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Forgot to preheat your Air Fryer? Simply add a few extra minutes to the cooking time. I did the same when I made my Air Fryer potato wedges.
  • Choose medium sized potatoes for this recipe, and make sure all the potatoes are roughly the same size.
  • Also, slice them up into wedges that are roughly the same in thickness. This will ensure they’re all cooked perfectly at the same time.
  • If you’re using larger potatoes, you may need to add a few extra minutes of cooking time to make sure they’re perfectly cooked.
  • For some extra cheesiness, top the wedges with some Parmesan during the final couple of minutes of air frying time- I did this when I made my Air Fryer potatoes.
  • You can also just sprinkle it over right before serving- I did this when I made my Air Fryer Hasselback potatoes.

Recipe FAQs

Do I need to soak the sweet potatoes before using them?

No! But you do have to rinse them. Rub any excess dirt off of the skin with your hands or use a vegetable brush so any grittiness gets removed before you start using these.

Can I peel the sweet potatoes?

It depends on your personal preference. I love keeping the peel on, but if you don’t like the texture, it’s totally okay to peel them off!

Can I freeze the leftovers?

You can freeze them for up to 3 months, and reheat them whenever you want to. Just make sure you use a Ziploc bag or a freezer-safe container to prevent freezer burn.

Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees F for 5 minutes.
  • Rinse sweet potatoes in water and let them air dry or pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • Use a sharp knife and slice the ends of each sweet potato.
  • Cut them into similar-sized wedges (lengthwise) so they cook evenly, and place them in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
  • Combine salt, pepper, paprika, cinnamon, and garlic powder into a seasoning mix in a separate medium bowl.
  • Pour olive oil over the wedges and toss them to lightly coat.
  • Pour seasoning blend over the wedges and toss them together to coat evenly.
  • Arrange sweet potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure wedges are not touching. You may need to cook wedges in batches depending on how many you make.
  • Air fry sweet potato wedges at 350 degrees F for 8 minutes, tossing the wedges halfway through the cooking process.
  • Serve these sweet wedges while hot.

Notes

  • You may need to adjust the cooking time slightly depending on the kind of Air Fryer you’re using.
  • Thick-cut wedges may need a longer time to cook, so keep that in mind.
  • If you’re making a larger quantity of these air fried sweet potato wedges, cook them in batches.
  • Don’t overcrowd the Air Fryer basket- leave room for the hot air to circulate and crisp up the wedges.

The flavor was really strong. Good, but strong. I also had to cook them for about 15 minutes to get the texture right.
