We just celebrated National French Fry Day, because who doesn't love different types of fries? I especially love the flavors of this recipe as they are just the right blend. And these fries are better than a fast-food restaurant. If you have not tried Air Fryer Seasoned French Fries, you have to try this recipe!
What you need to make Seasoned French Fries in the Air Fryer
I made these seasoned fries in my Cosori 5.8 quart air fryer, but this recipe will work in almost every air fryer. To make these fries, you will need:
- 4 Russet Potato or Yukon Gold Potatoes (I used Russet Potato to make mine)
- 1-2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- teaspoon kosher salt
- teaspoon garlic powder
- teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- red pepper flakes
- cayenne pepper or chili powder
How to make Air Fryer Seasoned French Fries
To make these fries, begin by peeling, rinsing, then patting the potatoes dry. I use a mandolin slicer, but if you don't have one, you can use a sharp knife, and cut the potatoes into strips about ¼ inch wide slices in thickness. When leaving the skin on your fries, scrub potatoes to remove excess dirt before slicing.
Next, in a medium bowl, soak the strips of potato in a bowl of cold water for about 30 minutes, then drain them, and pat them dry with a paper towel. Once they are dry, coat the potatoes with oil and seasonings, tossing the fries in the mixture.
Next, place the potato slices in the air fryer basket, in a single layer, and cook at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking. You can add additional 1-2 minutes cooking time until they are golden brown, and reach your desired crispness.
Because these fries are crispiest when hot, serve the fries warm. They are perfect with a small bowl of ketchup, or other dipping sauces, on the side.
What are the best air fryers?
Because people are seeing the benefits of air frying versus using a deep fryer. So there are a lot of types and sizes on the market right now. So that we could help you make a choice, we made of the Best Air Fryers, to compare pros and cons. Be sure to compare oven style air fryers, digital air fryer, and basket style air fryers. Depending on the size of your family, you may want a 3-4 quart air fryer instead of a larger air fryer. Once you have one, it will be your favorite kitchen appliance.
How do I make Cajun fries?
To make Cajun fries, you can add the optional seasonings listed above. If you don't like them really spicy, add chili powder instead of cayenne pepper. You can use Italian Seasoning, or any other favorite seasoning as well. You can also buy a pre-made Cajun seasoning.
Can I cook frozen French fries in the air fryer?
Because you are making frozen foods, the cooking process will be a little different. Also, making frozen food will save prep time. Add the frozen fries to the basket. You do not need to coat the basket with oil, since frozen fries are pre-cooked, and shouldn't stick. Cook at 400 degrees for about 10-15 minutes. Season with salt if necessary.
Can I reheat fries?
If you need to reheat a batch of fries, or even leftover fast food fries, cook for about 5-10 minutes. Because not all ovens are the same, start at 5 minutes, and add additional minutes of cooking until they are to your liking.
Do I need to preheat air fryer?
I did not preheat my air fryer so for this recipe, you can skip that step.
