Recipe Ingredients

  • Sweet potatoes: Choose medium-sized sweet potatoes that have a bright color and firm, smooth skin. If you can’t find sweet potatoes, use garnet yams.
  • Olive oil: Extra light olive oil is the best choice, especially when air frying, thanks to its high smoke point. You can use avocado oil or grapeseed oil if you want to.
  • Seasonings: I used kept it simple and used ground black pepper and some garlic powder for flavor. You can also use a pinch of my homemade taco seasoning for a slightly spicy, smoky flavor.

See recipe card for quantities.

Variations

  • To make it a bit spicy, sprinkle sweet potatoes with a pinch of cayenne pepper and an extra pinch of salt.
  • If you’re making these as a fall side, sprinkle a bit of ground cinnamon and a tablespoon of maple syrup before serving. You can also use a sprinkle of my cinnamon sugar if you want a nice bit of caramelization on the potatoes.

Serving Ideas & Suggestions

Because these potatoes have a natural sweetness to them, they are the perfect subtle side dish to so many dishes! I love serving them with my Air Fryer pork tenderloinAir Fryer blackened salmon bites, and even my Air Fryer country style ribs.

You can also enjoy them alongside Air Fryer vegetable kebabs or Air Fryer bacon wrapped asparagus for a delicious veggie-forward feast!

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Make sure you preheat your Air Fryer. This will help cook the potatoes faster and make them crispier. If your Air Fryer model does not have a preheat option, just leave the basket empty and air fry at 400 F for 3 minutes.
  • Arrange the seasoned sweet potato cubes in a single layer in the basket, avoiding overlapping. This is key to get that perfect crispy texture. Cook in batches if needed- I did the same when I made my Air Fryer fried green tomatoes and air fried green beans.
  • To help the sweet potato cubes cook evenly, shake the basket a couple of times during the cooking time.
  • Adjust the cooking time depending on the kind of Air Fryer you’re using. You may need to add or reduce a couple of minutes.
