- It comes together effortlessly. You’ll need just 2 minutes of prep time, and the dish comes together in under 20 minutes.
- Teamed up with a veggie side and some Air Fryer smashed potatoes, it is the perfect weeknight meal.

Recipe Ingredients

- T-bone steak: Choose whatever thickness you prefer. This cut has both a strip steak and the tenderloin, which means you get the best of both worlds!
- Olive oil: To help the seasonings stick and the outside get nice that little bit of crispiness.
- Seasonings: I kept it simple and just used some Kosher salt and black pepper. You can use any other kind of seasoning you prefer, or try my homemade poultry seasoning mix.

Variations
- To get that extra rich flavor, sometimes I like to skip the olive oil and use butter instead.
- You can also use a compound butter like cowboy butter to amp up the flavor.
- Want some serious garlic flavor? Smash and rub some Air Fryer roasted garlic onto the steak before air frying.
How to Make Air Fryer T-Bone Steak
Rest the steak on the chopping board and pat dry to remove all extra moisture.

- Lightly brush steaks with olive oil, and then season with salt and pepper on both sides.

- Transfer to the Air Fryer basket, making sure it fits comfortably.

- Air fry at 400 F, for 6-8 minutes on each side, depending on preference of doneness and thickness of meat.

- Garnish steaks with parsley flakes, or with peppercorn sauce.
Serving Ideas & Suggestions
Steak and potatoes are a classic combination you can’t go wrong with- which is why, I would highly recommend teaming it up with my Air Fryer potatoes or Air Fryer baked potatoes.
To make a low carb meal, pair it with some Air Fryer butternut squash, Air Fryer cauliflower or crispy Air Fryer Parmesan Brussels sprouts and a nice drizzle of peppercorn sauce, which I like to make from scratch.
Recipe Tips & Tricks
- It’s best to allow the steak to come to room temperature first before you season it. I like to get it out and let it rest on the counter for 15-20 minutes before I pat dry and season it. I do this when I make my Air Fryer pork chops as well.
- Remember to flip the steak halfway during the cooking time. This ensures it gets that bit of golden brown crispiness on both sides.
- If you prefer the steak to be medium rare, cook it for a total of 10-11 minutes in total, and if you want it to be well done, cook it for 18 minutes.
- To give the skin a nice, crispy crust on the outside, you can sprinkle some coarse sea salt over it before you air fry the meat.
- My Air Fryer managed to fit just one steak, but if you have a larger device that can fit multiple steaks, feel free to do that. Just remember not to overcrowd the Air Fryer basket. This is a must especially when you’re cooking meats like Air Fryer chicken steak or even Air Fryer New York strip steak.
- To make peppercorn sauce from scratch, sauté chopped onions over low heat in a bit of butter and salt. Then, add peppercorns, brandy, some Dijon mustard, heavy cream, a bit of beef broth and some cornstarch and keep stirring until the sauce thickens.

Recipe FAQs
If there are any leftovers, you can refrigerate them in an airtight container or a resealable storage bag for up to 3 days.
If you are planning to freeze leftovers, wrap each steak in plastic wrap as tightly as you can and then place in an airtight, freezer-safe container for up to 4 months. Make sure you allow meat to fully cool before you freeze it.
If the T-bone steak seems tough, it is probably overcooked. Aim to cook it just until the 12-18 minute mark depending on how well cooked you want it to be.
The best to check for doneness is to use a meat thermometer. If the internal temperature reads 160 degrees or more, it is well done.
To reheat the steak, simply get it out and allow it to rest for around an hour and then pop it in the Air Fryer for a 6-8 minutes or until warmed up. Refer to my post about how to reheat steak in the Air Fryer to do it right!

Air Fryer T-Bone Steak
Equipment
- 1 Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 2 T-Bone Steaks
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Pat steaks dry with a paper towel and rest T bone steaks on the counter or a cutting board for 15-20 minutes prior to cooking because it allows the steaks to reach room temperature so it will cook more evenly.
- Lightly brush steaks with olive oil, and then season with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Place steaks in basket, without stacking or overlapping.
- Air fry steaks at 400 degrees F, for 6-8 minutes on each side, depending on preference of doneness. Use a reliable meat thermometer to check internal temperature of meat. Garnish steaks with parsley flakes, or with peppercorn sauce.
- Let steaks rest for 5-10 minutes before serving because this allows excess juices from steak to redistribute and keep meat super moist.
Notes
- I use good old salt & pepper to season steaks. But Italian seasoning, a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes, herbs de Provence or dry mustard, can all add a little extra flavor.
- You can also try using different toppings like steak sauce, garlic butter, fresh herbs with sautéed mushrooms, crispy herbs, creamy blue cheese, chimichurri or a fresh tomato and basil salad.
- Remember that thicker steaks will take an additional 3-4 minutes to reach your desired temperature.
- You can make a garlic herb compound butter days in advance to top steak with.

Is time and temperature the same for only one steak?
This is the time and temp for two, so you may want to check the temp of the meat with an internal meat thermometer to make sure just one steak is cooking to the desired doneness. One will cook a little faster than 2. Hope that helps!
Did you preheat your airfryer and if so how long?
I typically preheat if I am cooking meat. Generally for 3 minutes.
Definitely quick and easy. My T-bone was just shy of 1-1/4 inch. Outside cooked bit more than center (aiming for medium rare). 7 minutes on first side and 6 minutes after flipped. Would do again if short on time, but maybe 5:45 minutes per side for a 1-1/4 inch steak. Dog enjoyed the edge pieces;). Note: I did not use the basket. My fryer has grated trays as well, so I used one of them versus cooking the steak in my basket.
I recently suffered a medical emergency and now enjoy a salt free, low fat, low carb diet. PERK is that I CAN have 4 oz of LEAN beef and guess what? I GET STEAK, now too! The air fryer has been a godsend! I do it all, EXCEPT without the salt. T-bone will feed me 2-4 times. Thanks for the SIMPLE recipe!
Thank you! So glad you liked it!
