Making an air fryer grilled cheese sandwich is a simple way to make a delicious meal. Made with just a couple of slices of bread, cheese slices, and butter, you will have a delicious sandwich in minutes.
Making a Grilled Cheese Sandwich in Air Fryer
I love making these sandwiches because they are a delicious lunch with melty cheese in between my favorite slices of bread. It pairs so well with a bowl of tomato soup, cabbage soup, or just a salad, and has almost no prep time.
This sandwich is so versatile because you can change the slices of cheese. Using Monterey Jack, Sharp Cheddar, to Swiss Cheese, Colby Jack, or even a slice of Pepper Jack Cheese, or any combinations of cheeses, can turn this simple recipe for a classic sandwich, into a gourmet meal.

How to make a Grilled Cheese Sandwich in Air Fryer
- Spread a light layer of the butter on one side of each piece of bread.
- Place the buttered side down in the air fryer basket.
- Cover the slice of bread with a piece of cheese. Then top the cheese with another slice of bread, with the buttered side up.
- Air Fry at 370 degrees F for 3-5 minutes. Then flip, and air fry for 2-3 additional minutes, until bread reaches desired crispness.Â
I make this recipe in my Cosori 5.8 qt. air fryer. Depending on your air fryer, size and wattages cooking times may need to be adjusted 1-2 minutes.
FAQ's
These sandwiches are the best when fresh out of the air fryer, but are also crispy when reheated. To reheat, place in the air fryer basket, and air fry at 370 degrees F for 2 minutes on each side.Â
You can use your favorite cheese to make this sandwich. I love made Swiss and Cheddar. It's really your preference!
You can use your favorite sandwich spread, like mayo, to make a crispy sandwich. Just replace the butter when layering your pieces of bread.Â

You will love it! It is so easy! Please let us know what you think.
This looks great! I’m planning on making roasted tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches soon. My problem with grilled cheese is the bread usually burns before the cheese melts. This seems like the perfect solution. Two questions for you: 1) Do you set your air fryer to the bake setting rather than air fry setting? 2) Can you make three or four sandwiches in one batch, or is it best just to do two at a time?
Hi there! I typically use the air fry setting for everything I do. You can make 4 sandwiches if your air fryer basket allows the room. Some baskets are smaller than others so they can be hard to fit in so many. If your air fryer has the room, you can cook as many as will fit! 🙂
The only way I make my grilled cheese since the 1rst time I made them in my air fryer.
Thank you! So glad you liked it!
When i make grilled cheese the top bread flies off the sandwich. Why
Hi Kim. That can happen if the air circulating catches it just right. You can use a tooth pick to anchor it down.
