Air Fryer Okra is the best way to make crispy okra! This makes the perfect side dish and is a great option for making the perfect crispy snack. The flavor of okra compliment other main dishes in such a good way!
Forget about using a flour mixture, and use cornstarch instead. This is a great way to make crispy delicious okra and also keep it gluten free! For the best results, be sure not to overcrowd the air-fryer basket so that you get crispy okra instead of slimy okra. (no one likes that!)

The cornmeal mixture gives this easy air fryer recipe the flavor and looks that this breaded okra came from a restaurant! But no - that's your cooking skills that made such an awesome dish!
Ingredients
- Fresh Okra
- Olive oil-you could also use avocado oil like Primal Kitchen's
- Cornstarch
- Fresh minced garlic
- Garlic powder
- Salt
- Black pepper
Directions:
- Rinse the okra and remove any small black strings. Carefully cut the stem off to remove it.
- Cut okra in thirds or quarters, depending on the length. Try to keep slices equal in size to help okra to air fry evenly.
- In a large bowl, toss the okra with olive oil, cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, until each piece is well coated.
- Transfer okra to the air fryer basket without stacking or overlapping. Air fry at 380 degrees F for 15-18 minutes, shaking or turning pieces halfway through air frying.
- Okra should be golden brown and crispy when done.
Variations
Add more seasonings - Keeping it simple in terms of flavor is delicious, but don't forget that you can easily add other seasonings for flavor! Cayenne pepper adds a nice bit of heat, while chili powder, garlic powder, creole seasoning, Cajun seasoning, and onion powder are great options, too.
Add toppings - This crispy air fryer okra recipe doesn't have a ton of room for toppings, but you can add parmesan cheese on top and a squeeze of lemon juice for a citrus flavor.
FAQ's
That is the awesome thing about this great side dish. Since the sliced okra is coated, it's not actually going to have a slimy texture at all. Just be sure to coat all the pieces well and then add them into the air fryer basket in a single layer.

This easy recipe is really versatile in terms of pairings. Can I use almond flour instead of cornstarch for this fried okra recipe
Vi
Becky Abbott
Hi Vi. The cornstarch is to make them crisp up. I haven't tried it with almond flour but that could work.
