Air Fryer Okra is the best way to make crispy okra! This makes the perfect side dish and is a great option for making the perfect crispy snack. The flavor of okra compliment other main dishes in such a good way!

Forget about using a flour mixture, and use cornstarch instead. This is a great way to make crispy delicious okra and also keep it gluten free! For the best results, be sure not to overcrowd the air-fryer basket so that you get crispy okra instead of slimy okra. (no one likes that!)

Variations

Add more seasonings – Keeping it simple in terms of flavor is delicious, but don’t forget that you can easily add other seasonings for flavor! Cayenne pepper adds a nice bit of heat, while chili powder, garlic powder, creole seasoning, Cajun seasoning, and onion powder are great options, too.

Add toppings – This crispy air fryer okra recipe doesn’t have a ton of room for toppings, but you can add parmesan cheese on top and a squeeze of lemon juice for a citrus flavor.

FAQ’s

How do you cook okra so it’s not slimy?

That is the awesome thing about this great side dish. Since the sliced okra is coated, it’s not actually going to have a slimy texture at all. Just be sure to coat all the pieces well and then add them into the air fryer basket in a single layer.

Can I use frozen okra to make this crispy air-fried okra recipe?

If you want to buy the okra already prepped and ready from the store, then all that means for you have to do is open the bag for this easy side dish and dump it into the air fryer. That might be the easiest way to make this recipe, but I promise you that the recipe listed below will be more crispy and flavorful!

What foods pair well with cooked okra?

This easy recipe is really versatile in terms of pairings. It is delicious served with air fryer salmon or even an air fryer pork chop, and you can always pair it with other air fryer vegetable recipes. Some of my favorites are air fryer potato wedges and air fryer broccoli.  Other flavors like Cajun chicken or Cajun shrimp and a side of French fries would be really delicious, too!

Can I use almond flour instead of cornstarch for this fried okra recipe

    1. Becky Abbott says:

Hi Vi. The cornstarch is to make them crisp up. I haven’t tried it with almond flour but that could work.
