EASY AIR FRYER BREAKFAST POTATOES RECIPE

I love how the air fryer makes these breakfast potatoes so easily, and cooks each little bite to perfection. They are a great addition to breakfast and when you add them as a side dish to your eggs and air fryer bacon or air fryer twisted bacon, you’ve got a fast, hearty meal.

Breakfast potatoes are also versatile, and can be customized for the picky eaters in your family. To make old fashioned breakfast potatoes, we just add chopped bell peppers, onions, and seasonings, or you can leave them plain with just seasonings.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE BREAKFAST POTATOES IN AIR FRYER

Ingredients needed for breakfast potatoes. Olive oil, seasonings, and cubed potatoes, uncooked.
  • Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes-Russet potatoes are great for this recipe because they are so starchy, and will crisp easily.
  • salt-enhances the flavor of the potatoes, along with other seasonings.
  • ground black pepper-adds a little bit of heat along with the other flavors.
  • paprika-this spice adds just a tiny bit of smoky flavor to the potatoes.
  • garlic powder-gives the garlic flavor to the dish without changing the texture of the potatoes.
  • olive oil-used to coat the potatoes to help seasonings stick to each piece, as well as preventing the potatoes from sticking to the basket.

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER BREAKFAST POTATOES

STEP 1. Begin by washing and peeling the potatoes, then pat them dry. Once they are clean, cut the potatoes into small pieces, about one inch cubes, and transfer to a large mixing bowl.

STEP 2. Add in olive oil and the seasonings, then toss with the potatoes until they are well coated.

TIPS

  • Cut Evenly: Try to cut the potatoes into similar-sized cubes, about 1-inch each. Having the same size pieces will ensure they cook evenly. Smaller cubes cook faster and get crispier!
  • Optional Soak and Dry: Soaking the potato cubes in cold water for 15-20 minutes helps remove excess starch, which promotes crispiness. If you do soak them first, be sure to pat them dry before adding them to the mixing bowl.
  • Shake the Basket: Halfway through cooking, give the basket a good shake or stir the potatoes. This allows all sides to crisp evenly and will help prevent any sticking.
  • Adjust Cooking Time: Depending on your air fryer model and the type of potatoes, cooking times can vary. Start checking the potatoes around 15 minutes and continue air frying a couple of minutes at a time until they reach your desired crispness.

VARIATIONS FOR BREAKFAST POTATOES

  • Add veggies: If you want heartier breakfast potatoes, or to make it as a meal, you can add chopped red or green bell peppers or onions when cooking.
  • Make them spicy: For spicier potatoes, you can add a ½ teaspoon of chili powder to the seasonings, and then serve with a hot sauce, like Louisiana Hot Sauce.
  • Cheesy Potatoes: Add your favorite shredded cheese while they are hot to make your breakfast potatoes cheesy.

FAQ’S

What type of potatoes work best for breakfast potatoes?

Russet, Yukon gold, and red potatoes all work well in the air fryer. I like to use russet potatoes, but they all will work for this recipe.

Should I peel the potatoes?

Peeling is optional and is a personal preference. Leaving the skins on adds extra texture and flavor. Just be sure to scrub them clean if you’re going to skip peeling them.

How do I prevent the potatoes from sticking to the basket?

Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil before adding the potatoes. Because they are already tossed in olive oil with the seasonings, they shouldn’t stick.

How do I store leftover breakfast potatoes?

Air fryer potatoes are usually best when right out of the air fryer. If you do have leftovers, let them cool first, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. To reheat them, just toss them back in the air fryer at 400 degrees F for 2-4 minutes until they are crispy again.
