Air Fryer-Eggs in a Basket
This breakfast recipe is truly a classic. While it may surface under a different name, it will always be known to us as Eggs in a basket.
I also love an easy breakfast with simple ingredients. Those are some of my favorite recipes and perfect for busy mornings.
Other great breakfast ideas are bacon, toast, hash browns, and cinnamon rolls.

Just like the classic recipe from Cracker Barrel, this is one you can quickly and easily make at home.
This inexpensive breakfast takes just a few minutes and is made with just a handful of ingredients.
Ingredients
- bread - I love to use regular white sandwich bread, but whole wheat and sourdough are great options.
- egg - large work perfectly
- salt and pepper - to your taste
Instructions
STEP ONE
Preheat the Air Fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. After preheating, place a piece of parchment paper or foil in the Air Fryer basket.
STEP TWO
Take a piece of bread and use a large cookie cutter to remove a hole from the center.
STEP THREE
Carefully crack the egg into the center of the hole.
STEP FOUR
Close the Air Fryer basket and cook at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes. Add an extra minute if needed.
STEP FIVE
Carefully remove from the Air Fryer, sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper, and serve.
Expert Tip
- adjust the cooking time and decrease by a minute or two for a runny yolk.
Variations
- Top with sliced avocado for a different avocado egg toast
- Spice it up with different seasonings such as chili flakes, red pepper flakes, or white pepper.

Storage and Reheating
I don't personally recommend storing and reheating air fryer eggs in a basket as it tastes best when freshly cooked. If you do save this for later, store the egg toast in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Reheat by placing the leftovers in the air fryer and air frying at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1-2 minutes, or until heated through.

I never use oil sprays on my air fryer. Instead, do you think I could use aluminum foil instead of parchment and maybe spray directly on the foil?
If your air fryer lets you use foil you certainly can. I also do that with some recipes.

Love this idea. I have always liked Egg in a Hole. I have the air fryer with racks. Do any adjustments need to be made?

Here's a variation to the recipe.
Use two lightly buttered thin sliced breads. Make a hole on one and put a slice of cheese between them. Put the sandwich in the basket, dump the cracked egg into the hole. Poke the yoke, gently mix it with the egg white. Air Fry for 10 mins at 330°F; more time if less runny is preferred. No flipping required.
Result: An open Egg McMuffin
Advantage: No mess to clean, just a few crumbs to dispose from the lower basket.

"No preheating needed with this delicious and easy Air Fryer breakfast recipe! "
1. Preheat the Air Fryer to 330 degrees
So which is it? Preheat or not!?
Here's the thing. Some air fryers like the Ninja 5 in 1 requires you to preheat. The Cosori air fryer we use doesn't require you to preheat. So basically, if your style of air fryer doesn't require a preheat, then you don't have to do it! However, if it does, you want to preheat the air fryer to the 330 degrees Fahrenheit temperature suggested. Hope that helps! 🙂
