People always think I’m crazy when I tell them that I air fry eggs, but it’s literally such a fun way to make a quick breakfast in the air fryer or snack. Why waste time putting water in a pan and waiting for all that water to boil when you can literally add your fresh eggs right to the air fryer and let the hot air do all the work?

Ingredients

Four eggs on a marble table in front of an air fryer basket and a bowl of fruit.
  • Large eggs: Use large, cold eggs straight from the fridge for the most consistent results. Room-temperature eggs may cook 1 minute faster, and slightly older eggs (5–7 days old) peel more easily than very fresh eggs.

⭐️ A note on egg size: If using extra-large eggs, they will need 1–2 minutes more, while medium eggs need 1 minute less.

How to Make Soft-Boiled Eggs in the Air Fryer

To get started, preheat the air fryer to 300°F for 3-5 minutes before adding the eggs.

Four white eggs in shell, in the air fryer basket.
  1. Place the eggs directly in the preheated air fryer basket. Air fry at 300° F for 6-8 minutes.
Four eggs in a clear glass bowl in an ice bath.
  1. Place the air-fried soft-boiled eggs into an ice bath for 2-3 minutes or until they are warm to the touch. Gently peel eggs and serve as desired. If using eggs as  “dippy eggs,”  place slightly cooled eggs in egg holders, gently crack tops with a spoon, §remove the top shells, and enjoy with air-fried toast for dipping!

Expert Tips

  • Peeling made easier. Transfer eggs to an ice bath the moment they come out of the air fryer and let them sit for at least 2–3 minutes (up to 5 for the cleanest peel). When you’re ready to peel, do it under a slow stream of cold water and start at the wider end of the egg, where the air pocket sits. The shell releases much more easily there.
  • Know your air fryer. All air fryers cook a little differently, so your first batch is really a test batch. If the eggs come out undercooked, add a minute next time. If you have an oven-style air fryer rather than a basket-style, plan on 1–2 extra minutes since the larger cavity takes longer to build heat around the eggs.
  • Storage. Unpeeled eggs keep in the fridge for up to 1 week. Once peeled, transfer them to an airtight container and use within 2 days. Don’t freeze them — the whites turn rubbery after thawing.
  • Reheating. For the best results, place peeled eggs in a bowl of warm (not boiling) water and let them sit for 5–10 minutes. They’ll warm through gently without cooking further.

Air Fryer Soft-Boiled Eggs Recipe FAQs

How long do you air fry soft-boiled eggs?

Air fry eggs at 300°F for 6–8 minutes depending on how you like your yolk. Six minutes gives you a very runny, dippy-style yolk; 7 minutes is soft and jammy; 8 minutes gives you a custardy yolk with fully set whites.

Why won’t my air fryer eggs peel cleanly?

Usually it comes down to one of three things: skipping the ice bath, peeling too fast, or using very fresh eggs. Transfer eggs to ice water immediately after air frying and leave them for at least 2–3 minutes — this is what makes the membrane release from the white. When you peel, work slowly under a stream of cold water and start at the wider end of the egg where the air pocket is. If you consistently have trouble, try eggs that are 5–7 days old rather than freshly bought because older eggs peel significantly more cleanly

Can I meal prep soft-boiled eggs in the air fryer?

Yes, and it’s one of the best reasons to make them this way. Cook up to however many fit in your basket in a single layer, cool them in an ice bath, and store unpeeled in the fridge for up to a week. Peel them as you need them rather than all at once because the shell keeps them fresher longer. When you’re ready to eat, warm a peeled egg in a bowl of hot (not boiling) water for 5 minutes rather than microwaving.

Serving Suggestions

You can use the eggs for egg salad sandwiches, potato salad, as a topping for avocado toast, or to just enjoy a runny dippy egg as you want.

For dipping, swap out plain old bread for toasted bagel in the air fryer or crispy slices of air-fried Texas toast. Enjoy your eggs with a side of air fryer bacon, fresh fruit, and air fryer cottage cheese toast.

Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs

Instructions

  • Place the eggs in a small ramekin or silicone dish, or in the air fryer basket.
  • Air fry at 300 degrees F for 6-8 minutes. (Six minutes for very runny yolks and whites, 8 minutes for more firm whites, but still slightly runny yolks)
  • When done air frying, place eggs into an ice bath until they are warm to the touch. Gently peel eggs and serve as desired.
  • If using eggs as  “dippy eggs,”  place slightly cooled eggs in egg holders, and gently crack tops with a spoon, and remove the top shells.

Notes

  • The ice bath is non-negotiable. Move eggs straight from the air fryer to a bowl of ice water and leave them for 2–3 minutes minimum. This stops the cooking and is what makes the shell release cleanly. Start peeling at the wider end of the egg, under a slow stream of cold water.
  • Your first batch is a test batch. Air fryers vary, so adjust by the minute until you find your sweet spot. Oven-style air fryers typically need 1–2 extra minutes compared to basket-style.

Using Instant Pot duo crisp + Airfryer…
Sorry to say that it didn’t work out for me. I wanted a dippy egg with no raw white. I did one egg as an experiment. A large egg. (As stated)
Did it for 6 mins at 149°c (near as I could to 300°f) and it was still raw. Made a ‘nest’ for it in foil to keep it upright and put it back in with the top perched on top again for a further 2 mins. Still raw whites.
Another 1 minute – still raw.
Finally 2 more minutes and the white, although still raw in places was acceptable, but the yolk was hard.

Good experiment, but will have a go at another method next time! Maybe pressure cooker?

I was skeptical, but I followed the directions exactly and the six eggs I made were perfect! Thank you.
