INGREDIENTS
- sweet potatoes- medium to large size, peeled
- extra virgin olive oil- avocado oil can also be used
- kosher salt
- garlic powder
- paprika
- ground black pepper
DIRECTIONS
STEP 1
Rinse the sweet potatoes, removing any dirt or residue, and pat them dry. Once they are dry, use a vegetable peeler to remove the outer peel.
STEP 2
Use a sharp knife, or mandolin slicer, and slice the potatoes into ¼ inch thick slices that are about 4-5 inches in length. Try to get them as uniform as possible for even cooking.
STEP 3
Once they are evenly sliced, transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Add in the olive oil, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper, then toss everything together, coating the sweet potato slices with the seasonings.
STEP 4
Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees F. Transfer the fries to the preheated air fryer basket, in a single layer, without stacking or overlapping. Depending on how big your sweet potatoes are, you may have to make 1-2 batches.
STEP 5
Air fry at 380 degrees F for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown, or until they reach your desired crispness, tossing or shake the basket halfway through cooking process.
EXPERT TIPS
When making this sweet potato fries recipe, try to cut them as evenly sized as possible and trim any uneven tips. Use a mandolin slice if you have one. This will help them cook evenly without burned ends.
Don't overcrowd the basket or overlap the fries. If you have a lot of fries, you will need to cook them in batches if necessary.
The first time you make this recipe, keep an eye on the fries while air frying and check them the last few minutes of air frying.
I make this in my Cosori air fryer. Depending on your type of air fryer, they make cook slower or faster so cooking times may need to be adjusted by a minute or two.
If you want them extra crispy, just let them air fry for 1-2 additional minutes, until they reach your desired crispness.

VARIATIONS
Because these are so versatile, you can easily change up the flavor to match your taste with a variety of your favorite seasonings.
Even though they are naturally sweet, if you want a little extra sweet and spicy, try tossing them with brown sugar and ground cayenne pepper.
For a more savory flavor, use rosemary and thyme. There are so many spice mixture options you can try!
You can serve these fries with a variety of dipping sauces or eat them as plain with salt. Our favorite sauces are ketchup, ranch dressing, or a honey mustard dip. Try them all until you find your favorite dipping sauce.
If you want a thicker cut like wedges or steak fries, just cut the sweet potatoes accordingly, and then add a couple of minutes to the cook time.
STORAGE AND REHEATING
If you have leftover sweet potato fries, first, allow them to cool completely. Then, place them in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
When you want to reheat leftover fries, return them to the air fryer and then air fry at 380 degrees F for 3-5 minutes until they are warm and crispy again.
FAQs
When using regular potatoes (white potatoes) to make these air fryer French fries, we do soak fries in water first to remove excess starch. But when I made these sweet potato fries, I didn't find that it made a difference to the crisp level, so I skipped soaking them.
You can leave the skin on the potatoes for extra flavor. Just be sure to wash them and even give them a light scrub to remove any dirt.
