Golden brown and crispy, they make a great snack or chip substitute and are sturdy enough for dipping with some cheese sauce, or can be crumbled into soups or salads. If you’ve tried and liked my Air Fryer tortilla chips, you’ll love this recipe too.

Recipe Ingredients

Pita bread cut into triangles, tossed with olive oil and salt in a clear glass bowl.
  • Pita bread: The base of this recipe- soft, fresh bread works best. Choose thick or thin pita bread depending on the thickness of the chips you want.
  • Oil: Avocado oil or olive oil- both work well. You’ll need just a little- to ensure the seasoning coats the pita chips nicely.
  • Seasonings: To enhance the flavor of the chips. I used only a bit of salt here to keep it simple, but you can try using my DIY ranch seasoning too- it tastes amazing!

Variations

  • Use melted butter instead of olive oil and then sprinkle the pita chips with a cinnamon sugar mixture to make delicious holiday themed pita chips.
  • You can also try using some garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning or my favorite Everything Bagel seasoning to create different versions and flavors of the chips.
  • For a kick of heat, simply add a pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes in addition to the salt.

How to Make Air Fryer Pita Chips

Pieces of pita bread in the air fryer basket before being cooked into chips.

Serving Ideas & Suggestions

The best way to enjoy these Air Fryer pita chips is to team them up with a nice dip. I like to go for the classic hummus and some Air Fryer Falafel or Air Fryer Greek meatballs to make it a wholesome Greek meal.

You can also pair it with a cheesy dip or my Air Fryer spinach artichoke dip if you’re making it for a party.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Don’t use too much oil- just a simple light drizzle is all these chips need to become crispy.
  • Line your Air Fryer basket with parchment paper before adding the pita chips. This makes cleanup easier- I did this while making my Air Fryer cinnamon twists too.
  • For dipping chips or appetizers, use thicker pita bread, and for a lighter snack, use thinner pita bread.
  • Chips will continue to get crispy as they cool, so don’t worry if they don’t feel crunchy enough.
  • Still have a bit of pita bread leftover? Use it up to make my Air Fryer pita pizza.

Recipe FAQs

Do I need to use oil to make these Air Fryer pita chips?

Yes. The oil does help them crisp up and turn golden brown, but you can also use a light mist of non stick cooking spray if you want.

How do I store leftover pita chips?

Store leftover chips in a cool and dry place, and in an airtight container. Don’t put them in the fridge because the moisture will reduce their crispness. They should stay crispy for 3-4 days.

My pita chips have turned soft. How do I do I fix them?

If the pita chips have lost their crispness, you can reheat them in the Air Fryer for a minute or two until they regain their crispy texture.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 2 pieces pita bread
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  • Cut each pita bread into triangles or wedges. Toss the pita pieces in a large bowl, with olive oil and seasonings, coating both sides.
  • Place pita wedges in the air fryer basket in a single layer, without overlapping, so they can become crispy while air frying.
  • Air fry at 350 degrees F for 5-7 minutes, until chips are golden brown and crispy, turning the pieces halfway through air frying. If using thinner pita bread, adjust the cooking time by a minute or two.
  • Chips will continue to get crispy as they cool.

Notes

  • For extra-crispy chips, if using thicker pita bread, cut the bread in half.
  • You may need to adjust the air frying time by a minute or two, but this will make thinner and crisper chips.
  • Allow the chips to cool down first before you serve. This will make them even more crunchy.
