This homemade cinnamon sugar recipe is perfect for topping toast, desserts, muffins, and so much more!

Sugar and cinnamon being mixed together in a white bowl with a white spoon.

It’s so easy to mix cinnamon and sugar together to make a yummy, sweet topping for so many baking recipes. We use it to make cinnamon sugar toast, but it can do so much more on your favorite recipes!

WHY I LOVE MAKING THIS

I love making this recipe because it has the perfect ratio of cinnamon to sugar, and I only need two simple ingredients to make it! It’s a great topping when I want to just add a bit of extra sweetness and flavor to French toast, or other baked goods.

A cinnamon sugar mix also is perfect for rolling or dipping treats. It gives foods a yummy sugary outer coating, usually over butter, that makes everything taste better!

I first started making my own seasonings like this one, when I couldn’t find a bottle in grocery stores. Then I realized it’s much less expensive to make my own delicious blend and store it in a jar.

It only takes a couple of minutes to mix it together and I always have a supply of cinnamon sugar ready to make foods like these air fryer cinnamon sugar tortilla chipsair fryer cinnamon roll bitesair fryer cinnamon crescent rolls, or these air fryer cinnamon twists

TIPS AND USES

This perfect balance of cinnamon and sugar make a yummy coating or topping for so many delicious recipes. The possibilities are endless! Here are just a few of my favorite ways to use this mixture:

  • Hot Chocolate, Tea or Coffee– add a small spoonful to your favorite cup of coffee, cocoa, or tea for extra flavor
  • Ice Cream/Yogurt– sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over ice cream or on top of a slice of apple pie to enhance the cinnamon flavors in your pie. This is YUMMY! It’s also a great topping on plain vanilla yogurt.
  • Cinnamon Rolls– This cinnamon sugar mixture is perfect for your filling for cinnamon rolls. We love to make them from scratch, especially on holidays. The sweetness makes the cinnamon rolls perfect.
  • Breakfast– Just adding a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar to a piece of buttered toast is delicious. But, when you want more of a sweet flavor, you have to try it on these air fryer donuts, air fryer French toast, air fryer pancakes, waffles, or this air fryer oatmeal.
  • Baked Goods– When you make these air fryer snickerdoodle cookies, they can be rolled in this perfect cinnamon sugar ratio for sweetness. They just melt in your mouth with goodness! You can also sprinkle a little over this air fryer sweet potatoes recipe or a simple quick bread recipe!

DIFFERENT TYPES OF CINNAMON

There are several types of cinnamon, but there are two that are most commonly used. You can use either for this recipe.

Cassia Cinnamon- known as Chinese or Saigon cinnamon. It has a stronger flavor and is a dark reddish brown color. It most commonly used in baking.

Ceylon Cinnamon- known as Sri Lankan cinnamon. It’s a lighter color and has a more mild taste. It’s often more expensive than Cassia cinnamon.

VARIATIONS

You can easily adjust the ratio of sugar to cinnamon if you like things a little sweeter. Just double the granulated sugar for sweeter, or ground cinnamon, if you want a stronger cinnamon flavor. It’s your personal preference so feel free to make it to your liking.

Add in a tablespoon of brown sugar and take out a tablespoon of white sugar for a unique flavor.

Add in a half teaspoon of other flavors for fall like pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, or you can add in a pinch of ground cloves.

STORING

Make sure you properly store you mixture for future use. You can keep it in a mason jar, or any glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. As long as you keep it in an airtight container, it should have a shelf life up to two years.
