Ingredients for making frozen salmon filets
frozen salmon fillets (I love the frozen Gorton's grilled salmon, but you can use any frozen salmon, including fresh frozen salmon.)
olive oil- perfect for preventing the salmon from sticking to the basket, but will also help the seasonings stick to the salmon.
brown sugar-brown sugar not only adds a touch of sweetness, but will also give a slight caramelization to the salmon.
garlic powder- garlic powder is perfect for adding the garlic flavor to dishes, without the hassle of having to peel or chop garlic. It is also easier for the powder to stick to the salmon so you don't lose flavor.
maple syrup- this syrup adds a natural sweetness to the salmon.
freshly ground black pepper-pepper adds just a hint of heat to the salmon, making the flavors perfectly balanced.
How to Make Frozen Salmon Filets in the Air Fryer
STEP 1. Preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees F.
STEP 2. After preheating, line the basket with aluminum foil, parchment paper, or a nonstick cooking spray such as avocado oil.
STEP 3. Place the frozen salmon skin side down, directly on the bottom of the preheated air fryer basket, and cook for 7 minutes, or until defrosted.
STEP 4. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, brown sugar, garlic powder, maple syrup, and pepper until combined.
STEP 5. Brush marinade all over defrosted salmon filets, minus the skin side. Then air fry salmon for an additional 7-9 minutes of cooking time, or until salmon reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees F with a meat thermometer in the thickest part of the salmon.
Serve immediately. If you have fresh lemons, squeeze a little fresh lemon juice over the salmon before serving.
NOTE: This air fryer frozen salmon was made with a 5.8 quart basket style Cosori air fryer. If you are using a different air fryer, use a meat thermometer to help gauge how fast or slow your salmon cooks in your brand of air fryer.
Tips for Making Frozen Salmon in the Air Fryer
Don't skip preheating: Preheating the air fryer helps the salmon cook evenly, so don't skip this step.
Don't overlap the or overcrowd: Leave enough space in the air fryer so the air can properly circulate. This helps them cook evenly.
Confirm doneness: Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature, which should reach 145°F. Depending on the thickness of the salmon, cooking time may need to be adjusted by a minute or two.
Variations for Air Fryer Salmon
Herb-Crusted Salmon: Season the salmon with a mixture of dried herbs before air frying.
Cajun Salmon: Sprinkle on a Cajun seasoning blend to add a little extra spicy kick.
Lemon Garlic Butter Salmon: After cooking, drizzle the salmon with melted butter mixed with lemon juice and minced garlic. This will give your salmon an extra buttery rich flavor.
