Ingredients needed to make French toast bites in the air fryer.
  • 6 slices of bread slices, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 3 large eggs-acts as a binder, and will help create the coating for the bites.
  • 1/4 cup milk- balances out the thickness of the eggs, and will add creaminess to the mixture.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract-adds a sweet flavor to the French toast
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon-brings warmth and completes the classic French toast flavor with the vanilla and brown sugar combination.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar-adds a caramel flavor to the bites along with a little bit of sweetness.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt-just a small pinch will enhance the flavors of the French toast.
  • Non-stick cooking spray-this will help prevent the bites from sticking to the basket. You can also use parchment paper to line the basket.
  • Optional Topping: Maple syrup or powdered sugar-for serving

STEP 1. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, brown sugar, milk, cinnamon, vanilla and salt. Whisk to combine.

STEP 2. Cut bread into bite sized pieces, then add to the bowl with the egg batter. Toss the cubes until they are evenly coated. Make sure there are no dry spots on the bread pieces.

TIPS

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket: Work in batches if you are feeding a crowd. If pieces of the bread overlap, the covered bits won’t cook properly.
  • Use day-old bread: Slightly stale bread works best because it absorbs the egg mixture without getting too soggy.
  • Add flavors: Add a pinch of nutmeg, apple pie spice, or pumpkin spice for a seasonal twist to change up the taste.

VARIATIONS

Chocolate Chip French Toast Bites: Add mini chocolate chips to the egg mixture before soaking the bread. As the bites cook, the chocolate chips will melt, adding yummy chocolate flavor.

Stuffed French Toast Bites: Stuff the bread cubes with Nutella, peanut butter, or jam before coating them in the egg mixture. The filling will melt as it air fries creating a yummy filled bite.

Berry French Toast Bites: Mix fresh or frozen berries into the egg mixture before cooking. The juice will add berry flavor to the bites.

FAQ’S

How do I store these French toast bites?

Store leftovers in an airtight container and keep in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Reheat them in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 350 degrees F, or microwave them for about 30 seconds. (Microwaving may make them a little soggy.) You can also freeze them for up to 1 month and reheat as needed.

What kind of bread do I use?

I use plain white bread, but brioche bread and thick bread like Texas toast also work really well. Really, you can use your favorite bread. It also helps if it is a little on the dry side!

What can I top these with?

Serve these with maple syrup as a dip, or top with fresh strawberries, cinnamon sugar, blueberries, whipped cream, or powdered sugar.

Can I make this dairy free?

Yes, of course! Just make sure you use dairy free bread, and then swap the milk for your favorite non dairy milk. I’ve found that oat milk seems to work the best in place of regular milk for me, but almond milk can also work with this recipe.
