Ingredients
- Eggs: Large eggs give consistent cooking results and the fluffiest texture, and you can swap in some egg whites for a lighter, higher-protein version (two egg whites = one whole egg).
- Milk: Milk adds creaminess and keeps the bites tender, and any dairy or unsweetened non-dairy milk works, depending on how rich you want them.
- Bacon: Cooked, crumbled bacon adds a smoky, salty flavor. Turkey bacon or sautéed mushrooms make great substitutes, especially if you’re looking for a leaner option.
- Shredded cheese: Shredded cheese melts into the eggs for added richness, and cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, or dairy-free cheese all work well.
- Green onions: Green onions add freshness and mild onion flavor. Use chives for a softer, more delicate flavor.
Of course, you can add any additional fillings, but these bites are really delicious with just what is listed in the recipe.
Air Fryer Egg Cups Variations
You can easily swap or add ingredients to create new flavors or tailor the egg bites to your nutritional needs. Here are a few of our favorites.
- Veggie Lovers Egg Bites: Swap the bacon for any combination of veggies. We love bell pepper, roasted tomato, and chopped spinach, along with a pinch of garlic and onion powder.
- Jalapeño Cheddar Bites: Add chopped fresh jalapeños and a pinch of smoked paprika. Use pepper jack cheese or cheddar for the shredded cheese.
- High-Protein Bites: Add a couple of tablespoons of cottage cheese or Greek yogurt to your egg mixture for extra protein.
- Veggie and Bacon Combo: Add some chopped spinach or kale to the egg mixture along with the bacon, shredded cheese, and chives.
- Egg White Bites: Replace the whole eggs with 12 egg whites, similar to my copycat Starbucks egg white bites. These may cook more quickly, so be sure to check them 2-3 minutes before the end of the cooking time.
- Add Some Seasonings: Boost the flavor by mixing in simple seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, or a pinch of chili flakes for heat.

How to Make Air Fryer Egg Bites
I make these in my Cosori 5.8 quart air fryer, but as long as you can fit the silicone cups in your basket, any air fryer will work. I also used this set of silicone molds to make these egg bites in the air fryer.
- Whisk together the eggs and milk in a large mixing bowl until well combined. Add the crumbled bacon, grated cheese, and chopped green onions. Gently stir to evenly distribute the ingredients in the egg mixture.
- Equally divide the egg mixture into the silicone mold, filling each one about ⅔ full.

- Place the silicone egg mold in the air fryer basket, or on a baking sheet if you have a tray air fryer. Air fry at 300° F for 8-10 minutes. Pair with air-fried bacon twists and fresh fruit for a balanced breakfast.
Recipe Tip
- Basket vs. Oven-Style Air Fryers: This recipe was tested in a basket-style air fryer, which circulates heat closely around the molds for quick, even cooking. If you’re using an oven-style model, you may need an extra minute or two since the heat sits farther from the food. Place the tray on the middle rack for the most even results.
- Preheating Notes: We always preheat the air fryer for the most consistent, even results. Preheating helps the egg bites set more uniformly and prevents the tops from cooking faster than the centers. If your model doesn’t have a preheat function, simply run it empty for a few minutes to warm it up, or start checking the egg bites 1–2 minutes earlier, since a non-preheated basket may cook slightly slower.
- Silicone Mold Differences: We used standard silicone egg bite molds, which cook gently and release easily. If you use individual silicone cups or small ramekins, keep in mind that thicker or narrower containers will take slightly longer to cook than shallow molds.
- Fill Level Matters: A deeper layer of egg mixture takes longer to set, while a thinner layer cooks faster and stays a bit softer. For the most consistent texture, try to fill each mold about the same amount.
- Avoid Overcrowding: The egg bites will puff up a little bit while cooking and cook best if they have a little space for air flow.

Serving Suggestions
These air fryer egg bites are delicious on their own, but they’re even better paired with classic air fryer breakfast favorites.
Try serving them with air-fried hash brown patties or air fryer breakfast potatoes. You can even try this air fryer bacon recipe, or if you’re feeling fancy, this sweet-and-savory candied bacon in the air fryer makes a fun brunch add-on!
They’re also incredibly versatile: pack them as a portable breakfast, tuck them into a lunchbox as a kid-friendly snack, or enjoy a couple before or after the gym for a quick high-protein fuel-up.
For extra flavor, drizzle or dip them in your favorite sauces — a little hot sauce, sriracha mayo, salsa, pesto, or hollandaise instantly transforms the egg bites into something special.
Storage and Reheating
Make sure you save any leftover air fryer egg bites. These make the perfect grab-and-go breakfast and are a super easy meal prep for busy mornings when you need a healthy, protein-packed breakfast.
- Storing: Place them in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 1 month.
- Reheat: Place the egg cups in the air fryer and reheat at 350°F for 3 minutes, or until heated through.
Air Fryer Egg Muffins Recipe FAQ’s
Absolutely! You can use small oven-safe ramekins or even a silicone muffin pan. Just keep in mind that thicker containers (ceramic) take slightly longer to cook, so start checking for doneness a minute or two later than the recipe suggests.
Rubbery egg bites usually mean the air fryer was too hot, they cooked a little too long, or the cups were overfilled. Preheating, keeping the temperature at 300°F, and checking them early all help, and making sure each mold is filled to the same level ensures they cook evenly.
Yes! Simply pour the egg mixture into silicone molds or small ramekins, place them on a baking sheet, and bake at 325°F for about 20–25 minutes, or until the centers are set. Oven baking takes longer than the air fryer, but the texture comes out soft and custardy.
Lightly grease the silicone molds with nonstick spray before filling, even if they’re labeled nonstick. This makes a big difference with egg-based recipes. Also, let the egg bites cool for a minute or two before removing; they release much more easily once they’ve relaxed from the heat.

Notes
- Basket vs. Oven-Style Air Fryers: This recipe was tested in a basket-style air fryer, which cooks the molds quickly and evenly. Oven-style models may need a minute or two longer; use the middle rack for the best results.
- Preheating Notes: Always preheat for even cooking and a smooth, custardy texture. If your air fryer doesn’t preheat automatically, run it empty for a few minutes or start checking the egg bites 1–2 minutes early.
- Silicone Mold Options: Standard silicone egg bite molds work best, but individual silicone cups or small ramekins also work—just note that thicker or taller containers may require slightly longer cook times.
- Fill Level Matters: Evenly filled molds cook more uniformly; shallow pours cook faster and softer, while deeper pours take longer to set.
- Avoid Overcrowding: Leave a little space between molds so air can circulate and the egg bites can puff without touching.

Great recipe, but if you divide the add-on into the cups first and then pour over the egg mixture, you make sure each cup get the same amount of add-ons!
