INGREDIENTS YOU NEED TO MAKE BAKED APPPLES IN AIR FRYER

Apples and other ingredients needed to bake apples in the air fryer.
  • Apples-The best apples are the sweeter apples, so I use Gala, honey crisp, or Fuji medium apples, but you can use your favorite type of apple
  • Oats-I like to use Quaker Quick or Old Fashioned Oats
  • Raisins-add extra texture and sweetness to each bite
  • Brown sugar-adds extra sweetness with a touch of caramel flavor
  • Walnuts-gives the apples a nutty crunch
  • Ground Cinnamon-a sprinkle of nutmeg can be added too
  • Butter- unsalted butter
  • Optional: Chopped pecans and dried cranberries are great substitutions

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER BAKED APPLES

STEP 1: In a medium bowl, combine the oats, raisins, brown sugar, walnuts, and cinnamon. Stir in the melted butter until the ingredients are combined. Set the bowl aside to prepare the apples.

STEP 2: Cut the tops of the apple off along with the stem. Then, cut a small part of the bottom of the apple as well. This will help it stand up without shifting or rolling.

STEP 3: Use an apple corer, melon baller or paring knife to scoop out the apple core and remove all seeds. Spoon the cinnamon oat apple filling into the cored apples until they are filled. Place the filled apples into the air fryer basket.

STEP 4: Air fry apples at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes until the apples reach your desired softness. Let apples cool just enough to remove from basket, and serve warm.

TIPS FOR MAKING THE BEST AIR FRYER BAKED APPLES

  • Don’t overfill: Be careful you do not remove too much of the apple cavity. Make a small hollow center to fill with the oat mixture, about ¾ of inch wide.
  • Be careful removing the core: Make sure you remove enough of the center without going too far. You want to have enough room to fill them, but not so far down that it won’t hold it’s shape.

BAKED APPLE VARIATIONS

  • Make them Bites: If you don’t want to add the oatmeal filling, core and then slice the apples in half, apple wedges, or into bite-size pieces. Sprinkle with apple pie spice or a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar, Then air fry until apples are warm and soft.
  • Add a Nutty Twist: Swap the walnuts for pecans or almonds. Just be sure to finely chop them so they aren’t overwhelming the bite.
  • Fill them with Fruit: This recipe using raisings, but you can also add dried blueberries or cranberries for a different flavor.

  • 2 tablespoons walnuts, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, combine the oats, raisins, brown sugar, walnuts, and cinnamon. Stir in the melted butter until the ingredients are combined. Set the bowl aside to prepare the apples.
  • Cut the tops of the apple off along with the stem. Then, cut a small part of the bottom of the apple as well, so it stands up without shifting or rolling.

Notes

Don’t remove to much of the apple cavity, just make a small hollow center to fill with the oat mixture, about 3/4 of inch wide.
Be careful to not go all the way to the bottom of the apple or the crumble filling may fall through the bottom of apple while air frying.
When you select apples for this recipe, I use medium size apples. Depending on size of apples, you may need to adjust cook time. The larger apples work best to add filling.

I had to cook my apples for about 17 minutes before they were done. After 12 minutes, the tops of the apples were getting too brown, so I covered them with foil. So good!

We loved this easy and tasty recipe. I made it gluten free with what I had on hand. I substituted almonds for the nuts, dried cranberries and a couple of dried apricots for the raisins, and dropped the oats altogether since I didn’t have any guaranteed gluten free. I added a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice and mixed the ingredients in the food processor until I liked the consistency. I’ll make it again!

using Truvia brown sugar blend and chopped dates and a little almond flour to swap for oats I transformed this recipe to a very low sugar by default as I didn’t have the exact ingredients. a dollop of thick greek sf plain yogurt. So good and satisfied my craving for BAKED APPLES. Made my Sunday special.
