These Air Fryer shishito peppers are the perfect delicious and addictive party appetizer that you can put together in just under 15 minutes. All you need is some of these fresh peppers, a few seasonings and your trusty Air Fryer to make these.

They have a delightful spicy flavor, are naturally gluten free and low calorie, and such a nice flavorful snack to serve alongside some Air Fryer fried Babybel cheese.

I’ve been experimenting with roasting quite a few veggies in my Air Fryer lately- like some Air Fryer acorn squash, classic Air Fryer stuffed mushrooms, and even tried making Air Fryer okra– which was insanely delicious by the way!

This time, I picked up a bag of Shishito peppers on my grocery run, and thought of putting them to use- this time, blistering them in an Air Fryer and not my pan. And oh boy- I’m surprised at how delicious they turned out.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Shishito peppers: You should find these at your local farmer’s market, an Asian grocery store or even at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.
  • Olive oil: To help the seasonings stick to the peppers.
  • Seasonings: I used a mix of garlic powder, smoked paprika, a dash of pink Himalayan salt and some dried rosemary. You can also use mixed herbs or my homemade poultry seasoning if you want to.

See recipe card for quantities.

Variations

  • Add some fresh minced garlic along with the seasonings to lend the Shishito peppers a bit of that extra garlicky flavor. I used it for my Air Fryer broccolini recipe and it was just perfect!
  • For a spicy kick, you can add some cayenne or red pepper flakes into the seasonings.

How to Make Air Fryer Shishito Peppers

  1. Wash and pat dry the Shishito peppers. Toss them in a mixture of oil and seasonings and coat well. Arrange in your Air Fryer basket.
  1. Air fry the peppers at 390 F for 8-10 minutes, tossing the peppers halfway through. Serve immediately.

Serving Ideas & Suggestions

Enjoy these charred air fried Shishito peppers on their own, some ranch or aioli, or even with a simple soy-based dipping sauce on the side. To make them fancier, you can also top them with a generous sprinkle of some everything bagel seasoning right after they’re out of the Air Fryer.

Leftovers can be sneaked into sandwiches and wraps (you don’t even need to warm them up). And of course, you can always pair these with some Air Fryer shrimp egg rolls or some Air Fryer frozen potstickers. I personally love pairing them with my Air Fryer fried rice or a nice Air Fryer stir fry and some noodles.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Poke a couple of holes or make a small slit in each of the Shishito peppers to keep them from bursting in the Air Fryer.
  • Depending on the kind of Air Fryer you’re using and the size of the peppers, you may need to adjust the cooking time by a couple of minutes.
  • Don’t overcrowd the Air Fryer basket with too many peppers. Space them out a bit so that the hot air can flow nicely around them and crisp them up.
  • To lend them an authentic Asian flavor, use sesame oil to coat the peppers. I did this when I was making my Air Fryer tofu recipe and it turned out insanely delicious!
  • Make sure you pat dry the peppers before you coat them in the oil and seasonings- otherwise, they’ll end up getting steamed inside the Air Fryer.

Recipe FAQs

How do I store leftover Air Fryer Shishito peppers?

These air fried peppers taste best when served immediately. If you do have some leftovers, refrigerate them for 2-3 days in an airtight container.

Are Shishito peppers hot?

It depends. Some peppers can be quite spicy, while most of them are mild. They’re less spicy than jalapenos, but a bit more than bell peppers.

Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shishito peppers
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried Rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon Himilayan sea salt

Instructions

  • Wash and rinse the peppers in a colander.
  • Add the shishito peppers to a small bowl and pour the olive oil over the peppers. Stir to coat.
  • Add the seasonings to the peppers and stir to evenly coat.
  • Place the peppers into the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Air fry the shishito peppers at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes, tossing the peppers halfway through.
  • Carefully remove from the air fryer basket and serve immediately on a serving dish with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • I used my Cosori Air Fryer for this recipe. If you’re using a different Air Fryer, you may need to adjust the cooking time a bit.
  • Shishito peppers only have a mild heat, so you can spice them up as much as you want with additional seasonings such as black pepper, cayenne pepper, chili powder, or even white pepper.
  • Check the basket at the 6-7 minute mark and remove the Shishito peppers if they seem slightly blistered and done.
