Recipe Ingredients

  • Cod filets: I used fresh cod filets, about 6 oz each.
  • Olive oil: To help the seasonings stick to the cod, and to help it crisp up slightly.
  • Seasonings: I used a mix of paprika, chili powder, salt and black pepper. You could also use Italian seasoning or poultry seasoning for additional flavor.

See recipe card for quantities.

Variations

  • To lend the air fried cod an extra crispy and crunchy texture on the outside, coat the filets in Panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs- like I did with my Air Fryer breaded shrimp). You can do this after you season them, or combine the seasonings directly with the Panko.
  • You can also mix some shredded Parmesan along with the breadcrumbs to lend the cod a nice cheesy coating. I did this when I made my Air Fryer Parmesan crusted chicken and it tasted absolutely spectacular.
  • For a citrusy, tangy flavor, you can squeeze some lemon or lime juice over the cod right before you serve

Serving Ideas & Suggestions

Enjoy your Air Fryer cod with a simple veggie side like Air Fryer zucchini fries or some classic Air Fryer green beans, or even just a simple side salad with arugula, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers.

You can also make it a hearty and filling meal by pairing it with some Air Fryer roasted potatoes or Air Fryer smashed potatoes. And of course, you can always pair it with a nice dipping sauce of your choice- I love pairing it with a simple tartar sauce- just classic and delicious!

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Try to use cod filets that are roughly the same size and have the same thickness. This will ensure they’re cooked perfectly at the same time.
  • Most fish get completely cooked in the Air Fryer within 10 minutes (I know that- I’ve tried Air Fryer Halibut, Air Fryer Swai fish and even Air Fryer Tilapia)- so keep an eye on the fish at the 8 minute mark to see if it is done.
  • Flip the filets over midway during the cooking time to get them crispy all throughout.
  • Make sure you arrange the fish filets in a single layer in your Air Fryer basket-leave some room for the hot air to flow through and crisp up the fish.
  • Experiment with different seasonings and marinades to get enjoy different flavors. I love the idea of using a simple honey mustard marinade for this recipe- like I did with my Air Fryer honey mustard salmon recipe.
  • Got some leftover pesto? Spoon it over your cod filets (seasoned with just salt and pepper) and top with a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese before air frying to create the ultimate cheesy pesto cod. This one’s inspired by my Air Fryer cheesy pesto salmon recipe.

Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 2 Cod Filets, about 6 ounces each
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Lightly rinse and pat fish dry with a paper towel. Set aside.
  • Combine the paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Stir to combine.
  • Brush each piece of fish with olive oil to coat fish on both sides and then sprinkle to coat with seasoning mixture.
  • Without overlapping, place fish fillets in the Air Fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry at 350ºF for 6-8 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Your fish is done when the internal temperature reaches 140-145ºF. To check the internal temperature of your fish, you can use a meat thermometer.
  • I used a Cosori 5.8 Quart Air Fryer. You may need to adjust the cooking time slightly depending on the kind of Air Fryer you’re using.
  • Make sure you pat the fish filets dry before you grease and season them. This will help them get that slightly crispy outside when they’re done.

I made this dish tonight and tweaked it a drop. I did not add the salt and pepper but instead I used a tsp of Paul Prudhomme’s Seafood Magic…fabulous. This is a go to recipe. Thanks
