My soft pretzel recipe is really simple. I skip the baking soda bath to save time, and they come out golden brown, and melt in your mouth. So I use the same recipe for the pretzel dogs and soft pretzels.
You can also serve these with chili and cheese on the side and make them pretzel versions of chili cheese dogs.

How to make Air Fryer Pretzel Dogs
This recipe is actually really easy! Prepare the air fryer basket by using air fryer parchment paper, or lightly coat the basket with olive oil.
To make the pretzel dough, begin by combining the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast, in a large mixing bowl. Then, pour in the warm water and melted butter. Stir together with a fork until the dough is flaky. Knead the dough until a dough ball forms.

Remove the smooth ball of dough and put on a lightly floured work surface, then use a pizza cutter or knife to cut into eight even pieces. Roll each piece of pretzel dough into a 12-14 inch rope. Wrap each hot dog with a piece of the dough ropes, and place in the air fryer basket or on a baking sheet if you have a tray air fryer.

Once the hot dogs are all wrapped, brush the tops of each uncooked pretzel dog with egg wash, and then sprinkle your favorite topping onto pretzels, like pretzel salt or sesame seeds. Finally, cook in the air fryer at 320 degrees Fahrenheit for 12-14 minutes, until they are golden. Serve as a meal, or just as a quick snack.

I use a Cosori 5.8 quart air fryer, but keep in mind, not all fryers are the same. Depending on the size and wattage, you may need to adjust the cooking time by 1-2 minutes. For more even cooking, do not over fill the basket. Work in batches, cooking 3-4 pretzels at a time.

FAQ's
What optional toppings can I put on pretzel dogs?
You can serve with cheese sauce, chili sauce, ketchup, mustard or brown mustard. The choice is really up to you. My favorite dipping sauce for pretzels is a creamy nacho cheese sauce.
Can I use other meat to make air fryer pretzel dogs?
You can wrap sausage, brats, or even flavored hot dogs, like Nathan's Famous Cheese Stuffed hot dogs!
Why do you cook the pretzels at such a low temperature?
Using a lower temperature helps even the cooking process for the pretzels and the hot dogs. If you cook them too hot, the hot dogs will be burned and the pretzel dough will not be cooked enough.
