This air fryer pop tarts recipe is an easy and delicious way to make a favorite childhood treat. They come out perfectly flaky and crispy!
Why you will love this Pop Tart Recipe
These homemade version of air fryer pop-tarts are a scrumptious and wonderful change to store bought toaster pastries. Because they take such a short time to cook, and have very little prep time, they are perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Because these pop tarts are filled with sweet jam, they are delicious by themselves. However, if you want to top them, you can use salted caramel, drizzled chocolate syrup, berry frosting or use a drop of food coloring in cream cheese for extra color.

Ingredients:
- refrigerated pie crust
- strawberry jam-You can use your favorite flavor, but I like to use a Strawberry Jam, like Smucker's
Glaze Ingredients:
- powdered sugar
- milk
- Sprinkles
Optional fillings: These air fryer berry pop tarts could be made with several other fillings. A few of my favorites are orange marmalade, brown sugar cinnamon, raspberry jam and chocolate hazelnut spread.
How to Make Homemade Pop Tarts in the Air Fryer:
-
Remove pie crust from packaging and lay it out flat on a lightly floured surface or on a cutting board. Use a rolling pin, and roll the pie crust into a large rectangular shape on a flat surface. Use a pizza cutter or knife to cut dough rectangles, about 3x5 inches.
-
Next, spoon about 1 tablespoon of jam into the center of each rectangle, gently spreading, leaving about a ¼ inch border around the edges. Be careful to not overfill or it will leak out in your air fryer.Â
-
Fill a small bowl with warm water and lightly dip your finger into water and slide along the bottom edge piece (this helps glue dough pieces together).Â
-
Cover the bottom piece with a top piece of pastry. Pinch all edges together and seal them with a fork. Use the fork to poke holes in the pastry for ventilation while it cooks. (I poke holes in top, middle, and bottom of pop tart for uniformity).
-
Repeat this process until all pieces are filled with strawberry jam. Any trimmed pieces can be combined, rolled out and cut into more 3x5 rectangles and will make 3-4 more full air fryer pop tarts.
-
Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper, or lightly spray with nonstick coating. Then, place pastries in a single layer into basket.
-
Air fry at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes, until the edges are crispy golden brown. Allow to cool before glazing or eating pastry.
How to make pop tart glaze:
To make a glaze, combine the powdered sugar and milk in a medium size bowl and gently stir with a spoon until ingredients are smooth. Glaze will be shiny and creamy.
FAQ's
They may be eaten too quick to freeze, but if there are leftovers or you have made extra you can freeze them. Freeze homemade pop tarts in an airtight sealed storage bag or container for up to 3 months. To re-heat, thaw and cook at 350 degrees F for 6-8 minutes until warmed through and crispy.
Store in the refrigerator, and you can easily pull out these crumbly pastries during the morning rush when taking kids to school or headed to work. Place cooked pastries in an airtight container or sealed storage bag for up to a week.
I usually make homemade strawberry pop tarts. But you use blueberry raspberry, or mixed berry blend. Dropping in a few chocolate chips or marshmallows in with a chocolate or Nutella hazelnut spread will make them creamy and rich in flavor. The choices are endless until you find your favorite pop tart filling.
You can use an egg wash (one egg beaten and a tablespoon or water in a small bowl). Using a kitchen brush with egg wash around the bottom edge which provides extra adhesion to ensure pop tarts stay completely sealed.
There are a couple pastry dough choices that can be found in the freezer section in your local grocery store pastry section. Puff pastry rectangles will make your pastries buttery and flaky.
