EASY AIR FRYER CORNBREAD RECIPE

Nothing beats a side of light, fluffy, homemade Southern cornbread. Especially when served alongside BBQ favorites like air fryer ribs or BBQ air fryer chicken wings. This classic comfort food is one of my favorite air fryer recipes!

To make this recipe, I use a Cosori Air Fryer with a square pan. If you want to make individual air fryer cornbread muffins, you will need these silicone muffin cups.

INGREDIENTS YOU NEED TO MAKE CORNBREAD IN THE AIR FRYER

Ingredients needed to make cornbread from scratch.
  • all-purpose flour-add the structure to the cornbread.
  • cornmeal-made from ground corn and adds a slightly sweet flavor and a bit of gritty texture.
  • sugar-adds sweetness to the cornbread, and helps give it texture.
  • baking powder-leavening agent that will help the cornbread rise to be light and fluffy.
  • salt-enhances the flavors of this recipe.
  • buttermilk-adds moisture to the batter, and gives a tangy flavor.
  • melted butter-makes the batter tender and moist, and helps it to turn golden brown.
  • egg-binds the ingredients together for baking.

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER CORNBREAD

STEP 1.  In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Making this cornbread is really simple! Stir the dry ingredients together.

STEP 2. Add the wet ingredients of buttermilk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Whisk the ingredients together until it forms into a thick batter.

STEP 3. Pour the batter into the baking pan, lightly coated with nonstick cooking spray, and spread evenly, or pour into individual silicone cups, filling them 3/4 of the way full.

MAKING CORNBREAD WITH JIFFY CORNBREAD MIX

I love making this cornbread from scratch, but you can use Jiffy corn muffin mix in the air fryer. Just follow the instructions on the box to make the batter, and then follow the same cook time as this recipe.

TIPS

  • Use Buttermilk for Flavor and Moisture: Buttermilk adds a tangy flavor and keeps the cornbread soft and moist. If you don’t have buttermilk, mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice with 1 cup of milk as a substitute.
  • Avoid Overmixing: Be careful you don’t overmix the batter, which can make your cornbread dense.
  • Check for Doneness: Use a toothpick to check the center for doneness. It should come out clean or with a few crumbs.

VARIATIONS

  • Add-ins: Shredded cheddar cheese, chopped jalapeño, or cooked pork sausage crumbles, are a great addition to corn bread. Keep in mind, they may change the texture of the your cornbread.
  • Toppings: For extra sweetness, drizzle with honey before serving.

FAQ’s:

What can I serve with cornbread?

I love having cornbread with our favorite chili. We just top it with a little bit of butter, and it is ready to eat! But it’s also delicious with stews or your favorite BBQ foods.

Store the cornbread in an airtight container, or wrap with plastic wrap, and keep in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To reheat it, just stick it back in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 2-3 minutes.
