VARIATIONS

While the results of hot dogs in bacon is amazing, the flavor combinations are endless!

Cheese stuffed hot dogs, or other flavored hot dogs are just one way to change the flavor. Or sprinkle shredded cheese on top and air fry for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.

Switch up the bacon flavors by using maple, hickory, apple wood for smoky flavor, or brown sugar bacon are all great options too for flavored crispy textures!

Switch up the sauces on top of the hot dogs by using BBQ sauce instead of classic ketchup and mustard. There are so many flavors to choose from like Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ. You can also use hot sauce, cheese sauce, or your favorite barbecue sauce.

EXPERT TIPS

Depending on the thickness of the bacon, the cooking time may need to be adjust by a couple of minutes. Thick-cut bacon may need more time, while regular or thinner bacon will need less time.

If you use toothpicks to secure the bacon to make sure it stays in place while air frying, don’t forget to remove them before serving the hot dogs!

Don’t overfill the basket, or stack the hot dogs. This can prevent proper air circulation and will prevent them from cooking properly.

Before putting the dogs on buns, air fry the buns for a minute or two so they are crispy too.

STORING AND REHEATING

If you have leftover hot dogs that you don’t air fry, cover and store them in the refrigerator. Keep them stored according to the expiration date on the package.

For cooked hot dogs that are leftovers, allow them to cool first. Then store in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for 3-4 days.

To reheat, return them to the air fryer and air fry for 2-3 minutes until they are heated through the bacon is crispy again to your preferred texture.

FAQS

Can I use turkey bacon instead of pork bacon?

Yes, absolutely! Turkey bacon is a great leaner alternative and can be used to wrap around the hot dog.

Can I prepare bacon-wrapped hot dogs in advance?

If you are making a large batch, you can assemble them ahead of time by wrapping the slices of bacon around the hot dogs and then wait to cook them until you are ready to eat them.

Do I need to prepare the basket to make this recipe?

The hot dogs and bacon have natural grease from the fats so you don’t need to use cooking spray. You can lightly spray the basket to help prevent the bacon from cooking into the basket if it is prone to have foods stick.
