Recipe Ingredients

- Pie crust: Refrigerated pie crust works best! I used it for my Air Fryer cream cheese cherry pies too, and they turned out just perfect!
- Apple pie filling: Use a canned one like Comstock Pie Filling or try a homemade filling using my Air Fryer apples recipe.
- Sugar + cinnamon: For the topping! You can also just use coarse sugar if that’s what you prefer.
- Egg + milk: To make a simple egg wash for the hand pies. This will help create that golden brown glaze and will help the cinnamon sugar stick to the surface.
See recipe card for quantities.
Variations
- Try different delicious fruit filling for these hands pies. I used apples here, but you can also try using peach and blueberries!
- For a deeper, delicious flavor, use brown sugar instead of white sugar for the topping. I love using my homemade cinnamon sugar whenever I have it at hand. It’s actually really versatile- I’ve used it for so many recipes- especially my Air Fryer sugared pecans and Air Fryer cinnamon sugar tortilla chips.
How to Make Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies

- Unroll the refrigerated dough, and then, using a pastry cutter or sharp paring knife, cut the crust into small circles, about 6 inches in size.

- Place each 6-inch circle on a lightly floured counter or baking sheet. Spoon the filling onto the center of one side of each crust circle, leaving space for edges. Fold the crust over and pinch or use a fork to seal edges.

- Combine egg and milk in a small bowl, and sugar and ground cinnamon together. Brush pies with egg wash mixture.

- Then, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture.

- Air fry at 380 F for 6 minutes, turning pies halfway through cooking process.

- Let them rest for a few minutes on a rack and then serve hot, warm or room temperature.
Serving Ideas & Suggestions
Enjoy these crispy Air Fryer apple hand pies as a snack or a quick sweet treat after dinner any day of the week. You can have them as-is, or serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some Air Fryer candied walnuts for some extra indulgence.
I personally love serving them with my Air Fryer puff pastry apple rings or Air Fryer apple pie taquitos and some classic Air Fryer lava cake, especially when I’m making these for some guests I’m hosting.
Recipe Tips & Tricks
- Don’t throw away the dough scraps. Combine them and roll them out to use for other hand pies!
- Make sure you carefully crimp the edges and create a nice seal before you air fry the hand pies. This will ensure that the filling doesn’t spill out. I realized this when I made my Air Fryer cream cheese cherry pies.
- To make things quicker, you can use a hand pie mold to crimp the edges- like I did when I made Air Fryer strawberry cream cheese pies.
- Don’t forget the slits. Those few extra minutes can be really helpful in letting the steam escape and ensuring that the air fried hand pies don’t get soggy.

Recipe FAQs
A simple circle biscuit cutter works great. You can also try using different sizes of cookie cutters to create different shapes and designs.
Store the leftover hand pies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat the pies, air fry them at 350 F for 2 minutes, or until heated through.
Yes, you absolutely can! Once they’re all crimped and brushed with the egg wash, freeze them until they’re solid, then transfer to an Ziploc bag or a freezer-safe container and freeze them for up to 2 months.

Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies
Equipment
- 1 Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 1 pie crust, refrigerated or homemade
- 1 1/2 cups apple pie filling
Egg Wash Mixture
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
Topping
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Remove pie crust from the package. Unroll it onto a flat surface, such as a larger cutting board or clean kitchen counter.
- Using a pastry cutter or sharp paring knife, cut the crust into small circles, about 6 inches in size. Then reroll the scraps of pie crust into a flat layer using a rolling pin and cut additional circles until all of the crust is used.
- Place each 6-inch circle on a baking sheet. Spoon apple pie filling onto the center of one side of each crust circle (leaving space for edges). Once they are all filled, fold the crust over and pinch or use a fork to seal edges.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg and milk to make the egg wash. Then in another small dish, combine the sugar and ground cinnamon together. Brush pies with egg wash mixture onto the top of each pie and then sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, or just coarse sugar.
- Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick spray or line with air fryer parchment paper liners. Air fry at 380 degrees F for 6 minutes, turning pies halfway through cooking process.
- Let them rest for a few minutes on a baking rack and then serve hot, warm or room temperature.
Notes
- If you can’t find refrigerated pie crust, use store bought puff pastry, pie dough circles, pizza dough or pastry rounds. Remember that the kind of pastry you’re using will impact the cooking time.
- Do not overfill pies with apple mixture or the filling will leak out into the basket.
- Cutting vents in top of pies will help the steam escape and create the perfect hand pie.
- To create an extra seal when closing the pastry, brush the edges with water.

What store bought pie crust do you use? I tried one that had a funky flavor and ruined my pies.
I use Pillsbury pre-made pie crusts. I know different brands or generic crusts can taste differently. Hope that helps!
Can I use Pumpkin? I am thinking of cooking it in a small casserole dish then putting it in the round to air fry it. Might even try Lemon pie filling.
Yes! You can use any type of filling you desire. I’ve done many, and they always turn out amazing. ๐
