This recipe was made for chicken breast! It's an easy recipe with minimal cooking time and loads of yummy flavor. Forget bread crumbs for this recipe, and use oatmeal instead! The oat coating gives a great texture and protects the tender chicken perfectly.
What I love about this great recipe is that it makes crazy good oatmeal-crusted chicken in less than 15 minutes of total time. My favorite type of cuisine is an easy one like this!
- Chicken breasts, cut into strips
- Oats-I used Quaker oats
- Grated parmesan cheese
- Garlic powder
- Black pepper
How to make Oatmeal Chicken in Air Fryer
Add oats to the food processor and pulse until it is a crumble. Then transfer to a shallow dish. Add the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
In a second shallow dish, add buttermilk and dredge each piece of chicken, until coated.
Next, dredge the chicken into the oats and flour mixture.
Once coated, place each piece in the air fryer basket. Lightly spritz each piece with olive oil to help with crispness.
Air fry at 380 degrees F for 12-14 minutes, turning the chicken halfway through the cooking process. (spritz again when turned)
Chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit or 74 degrees C for doneness.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and sides.
- I make this recipe in my Cosori Air Fryer. Depending on your air fryer, size and wattages, cooking time may need to be adjusted 1-2 minutes.
- Use a digital meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature of the chicken has reached 165°F/74°C.
Use a different type of chicken - While I prefer chicken breasts, you can also use chicken thighs, chicken tenders, and any other cut of chicken that you want.
Add different seasonings - Change the flavor by adding chili powder, a teaspoon of garlic powder, onion powder, garlic salt, and any other type of herb blend that you want.
How to Serve Air Fryer Oatmeal Crusted Chicken
Healthy recipes like this are easy to serve! You can leave the chicken whole or cut it up into smaller pieces to be like chicken nuggets. I like to add a bit of Italian flavor to the top of chicken with some fresh parsley flakes.
How to Store
Once the chicken has cooked and cooled, you can store it in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for 3-4 days. You can also add leftovers to freezer bags and save them for later as well.
Typically frozen cooked chicken should stay good in the freezer for 2-3 months.
You can use BBQ sauce as your dipping sauce of choice. You can also use salsa, hot sauce, ketchup, and all the different flavors of mustard.
A fun way to make every bite taste differently is to have a wide variety of dipping sauces to use!
You can. If you have a meat mallet, this is an easy way to thin the pieces of chicken so that they will cook quickly.
To make sure that the chicken is cooked all the way, you need to be sure that you are adding them in a single layer. Don't stack them or layer them or the chicken won't crisp up and cook all the way.
