Ingredients:
- All-purpose flour
- Granulated sugar
- Baking Soda- like Arm & Hammer Baking Soda
- Salt
- Butter
- Egg
- Buttermilk
- Optional: Raisins or Currants
How to Make Irish Soda Bread in Air Fryer
- In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the egg, and using an electric mixer, or a pastry cutter, combine the butter with the flour mixture.
- Carefully pour the buttermilk into the flour and butter mixture, then add in the raisins or currants. Mix on low to medium speed until combined. Dough will be a little sticky. Lightly flour a spatula or your hand to transfer it from the bowl.
- Place dough on a lightly floured surface, and gently form into a round shape. Do not knead the dough or the crust can become hard, and try to shape the dough with the same height throughout, without a dome in the middle. Then, using a paring knife, lightly cut an X shape into the top of the dough.
- Place the dough in a lightly sprayed or parchment paper lined air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 350 degrees F for 10-15 minutes, until the bread is golden brown. Using a hot pad, turn the hot bread over and air fry at 350 degrees F for an additional 10 minutes.

Variations
To be true to traditional Irish soda bread recipes, we aren't going to add any variations. The ingredients listed produce the best results for the chemical reaction to occur and make the perfect golden brown soda bread.
How to Serve
Use a sharp knife and cut into the bread once it's cooled. A serrated knife works best to get a clean cut into the top of the bread and also cutting off the slices. You can also cut out the center of the loaf and fill it with your favorite St. Patrick's Day soup.
How to Store
Once you cut into the round loaf, you need to make sure that you store it properly so that you can enjoy it again! This classic recipe is simple to store, trust me. You can easily add it to your bread bin in a plastic bag or wrap it in plastic and store it in an airtight container.
You can pop the leftover bread in the microwave to warm it up slightly before serving, and this is also a simple way to soften the bread, too.
FAQs
Since you can add raisins, you can make it taste a bit like sweet bread. But for the most part, this bread is one of the easiest bread to make and pair because it's versatile in taste.
You can make it savory to pair with an Irish stew and meats, or you can make it sweet and pair it with cream cheese and jam.
If you have a hard loaf of bread, you more than likely overmixed the recipe or kneading the dough too much. You don't have to overdo either for this recipe - just enough until the dry ingredients and wet ingredients are mixed.
It can be a little sticky, so make sure that you add it to a well-greased air fryer basket, or even better, line with air fryer parchment paper, and you should be fine. This is the best way not to have to stress about the dough sticking while it's cooking.
