This air fried Babybel cheese is going to be your latest obsession! Ever since the recipe went viral on TikTok, I have been itching to try it out myself, and I’m so happy I did!

The outside is crispy and crunchy and the inside is soft, gooey and melty- just like my all-time favorite Air Fryer mozzarella sticks. But that’s not all- they’re ridiculously easy to make, and so SO addictive too!

I love experimenting with air fried snacks and appetizers- so much so that I have a huge list of game day and Tailgate appetizers you may want to check out.

These all come together in just minutes using your Air Fryer and a few pantry staples, and this one’s just another addition to the list.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Babybel cheese: I used classic Babybel cheese here for the maximum ooey-gooey texture. You can also try using the lighter version if you want to.
  • Eggs: To help the breadcrumbs stick to the cheese.
  • Flour: Just your regular all purpose flour. You can also use a gluten-free flour if you want to make the dish gluten-free.
  • Breadcrumbs: I used Italian seasoned breadcrumbs here because that’s what I had at hand. You can also make do with regular breadcrumbs if you want to keep it subtle, or sprinkle in some of my homemade poultry seasoning for additional flavor!

See recipe card for quantities.

Variations

  • To lend the air fried Babybel cheese some extra flavor, you can also add some garlic powder into the seasoned breadcrumbs. I did this when I made my crispy Air Fryer green beans.
  • Don’t have breadcrumbs at hand? Crush up some regular cornflakes or potato chips and use them instead. Sometimes, I end up using Doritos too- I got this idea after I crushed and used them to make my Air Fryer Dorito chicken.

How to Make Air Fried Babybel Cheese

Small cheese rounds having wax coating and wrappers removed on a wooden cutting board.
  1. Remove the wrapper and wax packaging around each Babybel cheese.
Babybel cheese rounds being coated in flour, then dipped in whisked eggs, and coated in breadcrumbs.
  1. Create a dredging station with flour, whisked eggs and breadcrumbs in separate shallow bowls. Dip the cheese in flour, then in the whisked eggs and finally in the breadcrumbs.
  1. Lightly spritz both sides of the cheese with olive oil spray and then place them in the Air Fryer basket.
  1. Air fry at 380 F for 8-10 minutes, turning halfway through the cooking time until the coating is golden brown.

Serving Ideas & Suggestions

These are perfect for your next party and are an easy way to feed your guests! Serve this simple recipe as the perfect appetizer or a snacking night at home.

Make sure that you have a good dipping sauce handy!

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Top the air fried Babybel cheese with a sprinkle of freshly grated Parmesan right after they’re out and ready to serve. I did this when I made my Air Fryer breaded shrimp and it was next level delicious!
  • To lend these an extra crunchy texture on the outside, double coat them in the egg and breadcrumbs. This also helps ensure that the cheese doesn’t burst out and spill into your Air Fryer basket.
  • As always, don’t overcrowd the basket with too many of these. Leave ample space between them so they crisp up nicely.
  • To make cleanup easier, you can also line your Air Fryer basket with parchment paper if you want.
  • Make sure you eat these while they’re still hot- the cheese will start to harden as it cools and it won’t have that same gooey quality.
  • To lend the coating a spicy kick, add some of my homemade taco seasoning into the breadcrumb mixture.

Recipe FAQs

How do I store leftover air fried Babybel cheese?

If you want to save some as leftovers, let them cool completely and store them in a sealable bag or airtight container.
To reheat, put them back into the Air Fryer and reheat until warmed all the way through. The cheese may not be as gooey again though, so keep that in mind.

Can I try this recipe with another kind of cheese?

You can! Using any type of cheese or white cheddar is a great idea. You can also use this same basis to make a homemade mozzarella sticks recipe, too.

How do I keep the cheese from sticking to the Air Fryer basket?

Make sure that you layer them in a single layer in the basket, and spray the surface with non stick cooking spray before adding them in.

Can I use Panko breadcrumbs instead of seasoned breadcrumbs?

Yes, of course you can! I used them when I made my Air Fryer calamari too, and they turned out so crunchy!

Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 package Babybel cheese
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, whisked
  • 1 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs

Instructions

  • Remove the wrapper and wax packaging around each piece of cheese, then set aside.
  • Make three separate dipping stations using shallow bowls. In the first bowl, add the flour. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs together. And in the third bowl, add the breadcrumbs.
  • Dip cheese into the flour, until lightly coated. Next, dip the coated cheese into the whisked eggs. You want to make sure it’s coated enough with whisked egg so the coating will stick.
  • Finally, dip the cheese into the breadcrumbs, until well coated. Repeat until all cheese rounds are coated. You can double dip into the breadcrumbs to make sure they are well coated so the cheese doesn’t melt out.
  • Lightly spritz both sides of cheese with olive oil spray and then place in an air fryer basket, without touching or overlapping. (You may have to work in batches.)
  • Air fry at 380 degrees F for 8-10 minutes, turning halfway through air frying, until the coating is golden brown. Remove from the air fryer and eat while warm.

Notes

  • Arrange the coated Babybel cheese in a single layer in the basket. Don’t overcrowd the basket- especially if you want that golden brown and crunchy outside.
  • Handle the air fried Babybel cheese carefully as you get them out- they can be really hot and delicate, and may burst open.
  • Serve them hot with your favorite dips and sauces, or just like that!

What do you spritz them with? Oil or water?

    1. Becky Abbott says:

Hi! Sorry about that! With a little bit of olive oil.

  2. Ryan says:

I’m sorry I didn’t rate this but the description sounds terrific to use as appetizers. Which brings me to my question. How do they hold up and taste if they’re not eaten warm? I’m thinking about making them for a family party. Thank you.

    1. Becky Abbott says:

Hi! I ate them when they were room temp and they were still ok. Not as good as when they are hot though. Think of mozzarella cheese sticks- best when warm. Hope that helps!

Can’t wait to make these! My wife love baby bell and I am going to surprise her! One Suggestion. Step 5 add what you are spritzing with. you say “lightly spritz” but don’t say with what. I went back to the top where you mention cooking spray. So I assume that is what you mean.

Great catch! I think it’s up in the post but wasn’t put down here in the card. Thanks for letting us know.
