Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Wings
I love to make frozen chicken wings in the air fryer. When I am making fresh chicken wings, I usually end up making large batches.
When I use frozen chicken wings I can make as many as I want and save the rest for later.
NOTE: I don't preheat the air fryer for this recipe.
Ingredients:
- frozen chicken wings - your favorite brand, breaking pieces apart if they are stuck together
- sauce - choose your favorite wings sauce or homemade sauce to toss them in after cooking
- seasonings - my favorite seasonings are ground black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder
- baking powder - this is the secret to making extra crispy chicken wings
How to Make
STEP ONE
Allow wings to thaw for about 15 minutes. Prepare the air fryer basket with olive oil or nonstick spray.
STEP TWO
Place frozen wings in a single layer into the basket of the air fryer.
STEP THREE
Cook wings at 400 degrees F for 10 minutes.
STEP FOUR
Use a spatula or spoon to break the wings apart if needed.
STEP FIVE
Add seasonings to the wings and then air fry for an additional 16 minutes cook time, flipping the wings every 4 minutes until they're fully cooked and the skin is crispy and golden brown.
STEP SIX
Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature of the chicken is 165 F or 74 degrees C before removing from the air fryer.
STEP SEVEN
Add wings to a medium sized bowl and toss in your favorite wing sauce.
STEP EIGHT
Dip into your favorite buffalo wing sauce or dipping sauce of choice and serve with fresh celery or carrot sticks. Garnish with parsley if desired.
NOTE: I use a 5.8qt Cosori Air Fryer with this recipe. I find this recipe works perfectly with this brand of air fryer. If you're using a different manufacturer you may need to adjust the cooking time slightly to ensure you get perfectly crispy wings. All air fryer models are different and cook differently.
Expert Tip
Seasoning Frozen Air Fryer Chicken Wings is easy. After the first 10 minutes of cooking, the wings are generally detached and no longer frozen or stuck together.
This is when I start adding dry rub seasonings. I will also add additional seasoning to the wings during each flip if needed, until I have fully cooked wings.
For fresh wings, I typically season beforehand, but you can't season frozen wings without doing it by the steps above.
Storage and Reheating
Can you save leftover chicken wings that have been cooked from frozen?
Yes! Save leftover wings in an airtight container and place them in the refrigerator for up to 3 -4 days.
To reheat, add the wings back to the air fryer basket and cook at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 2-3 minutes until heated through. Reheating wings always makes them taste fresh and new.
Serving Options
Serve chicken wings with some of these additions for a great meal.
- celery sticks
- carrot sticks
- french fries
- macaroni and cheese

If you like crispy skin, make sure to add a little baking powder to the wings during the cooking process. I love to add flavor by using a little olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, ground black pepper, salt, and even Old Bay seasoning.
