Honey mustard salmon in the air fryer cooks perfectly, and with just the right amount of crisp. I am super picky when it comes to fish dinners. I don’t like my salmon to be soggy or chewy. The air fryer eliminates that for sure!

After seasoning the salmon, I mix the honey and mustard in a bowl, and then brush it on top of each piece of the salmon. That is really the only prep needed!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2-4 Salmon filets 4-6 ounces each-If you want to make four servings, just double the honey and mustard portion.
  • olive oil-I brush this on the bottom of the air fryer basket so the salmon doesn’t stick. Especially if the bottom still has the skin on. You only need a little, or you can use olive oil spray or avocado oil.
  • kosher salt
  • ground black pepper
  • Dijon Mustard-Mustard is what gives the slight tangy flavor to the salmon. You can also use yellow mustard.
  • Honey- This is for the sweetness! In a pinch you can use maple syrup, but honey tastes better!

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER HONEY MUSTARD SALMON

STEP 1
Preheat the air fryer for 3-5 minutes to 380 degrees F.

STEP 2
I use two pieces of salmon, but you can easily make four at a time. Just double the honey and the mustard, so it equals about a tablespoon of each per piece.

Un cooked salmon, seasoned, in the air fryer basket.

STEP 3
I placed the salmon directly in the basket, but first I lightly brushed it with olive oil to prevent the food from sticking. You can also spray basket with cooking spray that is safe for air fryer. If yours still have the skin on them, place salmon in air fryer, skin side down and season with salt and pepper to your preference.

STEP 4
To make the honey mustard glaze, in a small bowl whisk the honey and the Dijon mustard together. Then brush sauce mixture on the top of each piece of salmon.

Uncooked salmon in the air fryer basket, being brushed with the honey mustard glaze.

STEP 5
Air fry at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes, until the salmon flakes when scraped with a fork. Use a meat thermometer to confirm your salmon has an internal temperature of 145 degrees F. Season salmon with salt and pepper to taste.

EXPERT TIPS

Preheating the air fryer will help make sure the salmon cooks evenly. Don’t let the salmon overlap because the covered pieces won’t cook properly.

Fresh salmon filets or wild salmon, are always best, but you can use frozen salmon for this recipe. You can either let it thaw, or air fry it until it is thawed, and then add the honey mustard mixture for the last 3-5 minutes of cooking time.

When air frying salmon, use a meat thermometer to ensure the salmon reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees F.

Garnish with lemon slices so lemon juice can be squeezed over the salmon if desired.

Depending on the thickness of your salmon fillets, you may need to increase the air frying time by an additional 1-2 minutes.

The sauce ingredients are pretty basic, but you can also use a pre-made honey mustard sauce.

VARIATIONS

You can literally brush almost any seasoning, spices, or sauce on salmon and it will be delicious. Here are a few of our favorites:

Parmesan crusted salmon: If you want to make a crispy salmon with it’s outer coating, you can use mayonnaise, yogurt, or sour cream to coat each piece. Then press grated parmesan cheese or chopped nuts, like pecans, almonds, or pistachios on the salmon pieces before air frying.

BBQ salmon:  For extra flavor, drizzle your salmon filets with your favorite sauces. Honey barbecue sauce, or hickory barbecue sauce are great salmon coatings!

Air Fryer Teriyaki Salmon: You can marinade your salmon or brush with a teriyaki sauce before air frying. This is a family favorite!

Try other spices like smoked paprika, garlic powder, or spicy flavors like chili powder. Use your favorites!

You can also use this salmon to top salads, a serving of rice, or pastas too!

STORAGE AND REHEATING

If you have leftovers, first let it cool. Then store it in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for 3-4 days.

To reheat, return salmon to the air fryer and air fry for 3-5 minutes until heated through.

FAQS ABOUT AIR FRYER SALMON

How do you know when the salmon is done?

I like to test the doneness of my salmon, by gently pressing into with a fork. The texture should be tender, and if it flakes away, you know it’s done. The internal temperature should also be 145 degrees F.

Should I remove the skin of the salmon?

I normally don’t remove the salmon skin if I’m baking it or frying on the stove, so it is easier to flip with a spatula. Because I was making this in the air fryer, and I lightly oiled the basket, I removed the skin, so it could go straight to plate. If you want to remove the skin, use a sharp knife to cut between the skin and the filet.

What should I serve with the salmon?

Salmon is delicious with mashed potatoes or veggies like air fryer asparagusair fryer potatoes, or air fryer broccoli.
