This Air Fryer Chicken Cordon Bleu recipe is a decadent juicy chicken dish with a taste of savory ham and creamy cheese in every bite.

CHICKEN CORDON BLEU IN AIR FRYER
This Air Fryer Chicken Cordon Bleu is a fun cooking twist on a classic French dish that is definitely old school, but is so much easier to make today because it is cooked in your air fryer. This is a dinner time meal that will quickly become one of your families' favorite meals EVER!
If you want to bump up a regular weeknight dinner this is the perfect dish for you to savor along with a glass of crisp chilled white wine. It is a wonderful dish to make for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries or a job promotion.

Ingredients:

- chicken breasts
- cheese-Gruyere or Swiss, or you can also use your favorite type of cheese, such as Tillamook's cheddar, or pepper jack
- deli black forest ham
- egg
- kosher salt
- black pepper
- Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
HOW TO MAKE CHICKEN CORDON BLEU:
- To make Air Fryer Chicken Cordon Bleu, begin by using a sharp knife to butterfly each chicken breast in half without cutting all the way through.
- Lay each chicken breast between two pieces of plastic wrap, or in an unsealed gallon Ziploc freezer bag. Use a meat mallet and pound chicken until they are evenly flattened, about ¼ inch in thickness.
- Next remove sheets of plastic wrap or chicken from the bag and lay each piece flat on the cutting board, then place one or two slices swiss cheese and then top with a slice of ham, in the middle of the chicken and fold chicken ends over and seal with toothpicks, to keep ends of chicken closed while cooking.
- Place the whisked egg in a shallow dish or bowl.
- In a separate medium bowl or baking dish, that is shallow, combine the salt, pepper and breadcrumbs.
- Roll the chicken in the egg mixture, and then dredge through the breadcrumb mixture, fully covering the outside of each piece of chicken.
- Place chicken breasts in a single layer, without overlapping into a lightly sprayed air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 380 degrees F for 13-18 minutes until the chicken is cooked and golden brown.

I make this recipe in my Cosori 5.8 qt. air fryer. Depending on you air fryer, size and wattages the cook time may need to be adjusted 1-2 minutes.
Ingredients for Creamy Dijon Sauce:
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Creamy Dijon Sauce Directions:
- In a small saucepan, add the milk and butter.
- Stir them over medium heat until melted butter and milk begin to lightly boil.
- Then stir in flour, parmesan cheese, Dijon mustard, salt & pepper.
- Turn heat down too medium low to low and continue to stir until sauce begins to thicken. Serve with chicken.
FAQ's
You can certainly add your own spin on this dish. Some different cheeses to use are a tangy blue cheese, brie, cream cheese, goat cheese or mozzarella. In place of the ham, use prosciutto, salami, sliced roast beef/turkey or ground chorizo.
Cool chicken completely prior to storing. Refrigerate them in an airtight container or resealable storage bag for up to 4 days. Freeze chicken in a single layer on a baking sheet covered with plastic wrap for 2 hours so the chicken rolls firm up and stay closed, then transfer them into an airtight freezer safe container for up to 4 months.

The notes indicate that this serves FOUR but there are TWO chicken breasts. Are they to be cut in half?
Hi Beth. I use two larger chicken breasts that are 6-8 ounces each. The serving number posted is based on the recommended serving size for chicken, which is 3-4 ounces.
