Ingredients You Need

Ingredients needed to make apples in the air fryer measured and placed on a white marble table
  • Apples: Choose firm apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji for the best results.
  • Cinnamon: Adds a warm, spiced flavor that pairs perfectly with the apples.
  • Brown Sugar: Provides sweetness and a hint of caramelization during cooking. Check out this recipe on how to make homemade brown sugar.
  • Butter: A little bit of melted butter adds richness and helps the sugar and cinnamon stick.
  • Optional: Lemon Juice: Prevents the apples from browning.

Variations

  • Skip the sugar: Use coconut sugar or maple syrup for a different sweetness.
  • Add nuts: Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top for some crunch.
  • Add spice: Include a pinch nutmeg or allspice for extra flavor.
  • Use Coconut Oil: If you want to skip the butter, coconut oil is a great substitute that won’t affect the flavor like olive oil would.

How to Cook Apples in the Air Fryer

STEP 1: Rinse and pat dry, then peel the apples.

STEP 2: Slice the apples into wedges about 1/4 inch in thickness. Then in a large bowl, toss them with the melted butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar until evenly coated.

STEP 3: Place apples in a single layer a baking dish like a Pyrex, Corning ware, or large ramekin bowl. Place in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 10-15 minutes, until the apples are soft and golden brown.

STEP 4: Serve warm, or top with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or add a drizzle of caramel sauce, or toss with your favorite Greek yogurt.

I make this recipe in my Cosori air fryer. Because air fryers can vary depending on size and wattage, cook time may need to be adjusted 1-2 minutes.

Tips for Making the Best Air Fryer Apples

  • Cut evenly: Try to cut the apple slices as close as you can, to the same size. This will help them cook at the same rate.
  • Don’t overcrowd the basket: Work in batches if you are baking a large batch. If the air can’t circulate properly around the apples, they won’t get the warm crisp you want.

FAQ’s

Can I use any type of apple?

Yes! Granny Smith apples are my favorite because they are firm and have a little bit of tartness to offset the sweetness. Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala are all good choices for this recipe.

Do I need to peel the apples?

That’s up to you! I prefer to have them with a softer bite and texture, so I peel them first.

How do I store leftover air fryer apples?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 350 degrees before serving.
