Air frying these homemade chicken patties made from scratch will be a crowd pleaser at any type of gathering. It is a favorite recipe in our home that is freezer friendly which allows you to place frozen patties directly into your air fryer to enjoy whenever you desire.

Ingredients:

  • ground chicken
  • egg
  • shredded mozzarella cheese
  • finely chopped onion
  • panko breadcrumbs
  • minced fresh garlic cloves
  • kosher salt
  • ground black pepper

Optional Additional Flavors: Garlic powder, red pepper flakes, jerk seasoning, parmesan cheese, onion powder, curry powder, fresh chopped parsley or dill.

How to Make Chicken Burgers in the Air Fryer:

  1. Preheat air fryer to 365 degrees F.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the chicken, egg, cheese, onion, panko crumbs, garlic, salt and pepper. Mix chicken mixture together with your hands until fully combined.

  3. Divide the chicken mixture into 4 equal parts and shape them into 5-inch diameter burgers.

  4. Spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray and place the chicken patties in air fryer in a single layer.

  5. Air fry the chicken burgers at 365 degrees F for 8-10 minutes or until cooked through, depending on the thickness of the patties.

  6. Use a meat thermometer to confirm internal temperature of burger patties which should be a safe temperature of 165 degrees F.

  7. Allow chicken burgers to cool for a couple of minutes then carefully remove them from the basket.

  8. Serve while hot or let them continue to rest on a baking rack.

Optional Additional Favorite Sauces: BBQ sauce, mustard yogurt sauce, chili sauce, ketchup, spicy sriracha sauce (based on your spice level), honey mustard, marinara sauce, relish or a sweet and spicy pickle.

Optional Favorite Toppings: Shredded lettuce, slice of tomato, raw or caramelized onions, sundried tomato strips, bacon, avocado, pepper jack cheese, American cheese or shredded cheese.

Cooking Tips: Use a silicone mat to make it an easy clean up and prevent food sticking to your basket. For crispy chicken patties brush a little olive oil on the patties prior to placing them in your air fryer.

I make this recipe in my Cosori 5.8 qt. air fryer. Depending on your air fryer, size and wattages, your cooking time may need to be adjusted 1-2 minutes.

What can I serve with these burgers?

Onion rings, French fries, sweet potato fries or a salty potato chips are all going to be delicious with this tasty burger.

Can these chicken burgers be made ahead of time?

These are perfect to make ahead of time, prepare the chicken patties and wrap them in plastic wrap for up to 4 days in your refrigerator. Bring the patties to room temperature prior to cooking them, this allows for a more even cook and keeps the chicken moist.

How to store leftover chicken patties?

Refrigerate in an airtight container or resealable storage bag for up to 4 days.  When freezing, place them in an air-tight container or freezer safe container for up to 3 months. Frozen chicken patties can be cooked straight from frozen they just require a few additional minutes of cook time.  

What can I use to wrap my burger?

A good old hamburger bun, brioche buns are a little denser, English muffin, pretzel buns or an onion roll will enhance the flavors of your burger. Bun-less chicken patty alternatives are a crisp lettuce, butter lettuce, Portobello mushrooms, or large heirloom tomatoes cut in half.
