INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE PIZZA CRESCENT ROLLS IN AIR FRYER
- 1 can (8 count) refrigerated Pillsbury original crescent rolls- Crescent roll dough is perfect for making these small bites of pizza. It gives a perfect flaky crust and seals in the melted gooey cheese and tangy sauce.
- ½ cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce- The sauce gives the rolls a lot of their flavor and adds to the filling. Using store-bought sauce makes this recipe even faster and easier.
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese- Mozzarella cheese is what makes pizza! When melted, it is so warm and gooey.
- 16 slices pepperoni (or your favorite pizza toppings)- Mini pepperonis work perfectly, but can be left out or you can add other fillings. Top with chopped parsley for garnish.
HOW TO MAKE CRESCENT ROLL PIZZA IN THE AIR FRYER
STEP 1. Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into 8 triangles. Then lay them flat.
STEP 2. Sprinkle a tablespoon of cheese and then add a few pepperoni on top. Be sure to leave a small border around the edges so when you roll them them, the filling doesn't come out.
STEP 3. Starting at the wider end of each triangle, roll toward the center, the same as you would when making a crescent roll. Pinch any openings to seal the fillings inside the rolls.
STEP 4. Preheat your air fryer to 350° F degrees. Once the air fryer is preheated, place the crescent rolls in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving space in between them to they aren't touching. Air fry for 6-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
STEP 5. Let the pizza crescent rolls cool for a minute, then serve with pizza sauce for dipping.
DIPPING SAUCES
When I serve these crescent roll pizzas as appetizers, I like to serve them with a variety of dipping sauces. These are just a few of my favorites that I recommend:
- Marinara or pizza sauce- whichever one I use for the filling
- Garlic butter- melted butter with garlic powder or solid garlic butter used as a spread
- Ranch dressing
- Cheese sauce
TIPS
- Leaving the sauce out: You can add the sauce to the filling, but making it a dipping sauce helps keep the crescent rolls crispy. The sauce can make them soggy.
- Don’t overfill: Adding too much of your cheese, veggies, or meats, can make it hard to seal the openings and they will come out during cooking.
- Customize Fillings: Add your favorite veggies like olives, mushrooms, or cooked sausage crumbles. Whatever you add, just be sure to chop them finely so they are small pieces and can easily be sealed into the dough.
- Make Ahead: You can assemble the crescent rolls ahead of time and pop them in the air fryer right before serving. They taste better when they are fresh from the air fryer.
- Don't overfill the basket: Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may have to make two batches.
VARIATIONS FOR HOMEMADE PIZZA ROLLS
- Veggie Crescent Rolls: Add in your favorite veggies. Chop bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, or tomatoes, or onions.
- Meat Lovers Crescent Rolls: Mix together crumbled sausage, bacon bits, or diced ham, to make these pizza crescent rolls a meat eaters heaven.
- Cheese Crescent Rolls: Add extra mozzarella, or mix up cheeses. For extra flavors, pepper jack or parmesan are fun options!
- Gluten Free Crescent Rolls: You can easily make these gluten free by using gluten free crescent dough. Just watch the other ingredients that are added too.
FAQ'S
Can I use other types of dough instead of crescent rolls?
Yes! Cut puff pastry dough into rectangles for an even flakier crust, or use biscuit dough to make these air fryer pizza bombs. You may need to adjust the cooking time so watch closely to avoid overcooking.
How do I prevent the filling from leaking out during cooking?
Be careful you don't overfill the rolls, and pinch any openings together to seal in the ingredients. I also chop the ingredients into small bits so the dough is easier to roll than if they were bigger chunks.
Can I make these ahead of time?
You can make these pizza crescent rolls ahead of time and then wrap them up. Keep them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours until you are ready to serve them. Then air fry them when ready.
How do I store and reheat leftover pizza crescent rolls?
While these pizza crescent rolls are best when they are first made, if you do have leftovers, place them in an airtight container and keep in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. When ready to eat leftovers, cook in the air fryer to 350° degrees F for about 3-4 minutes, or until heated through.
