  • green tomatoes
  • all purpose flour
  • breadcrumbs
  • corn meal
  • eggs, whisked
  • buttermilk
  • Salt 
  • ground black pepper
  • paprika
  • avocado oil (or olive oil spray)

How to Make Fried Green Tomatoes in the Air Fryer

STEP 1: Preheat the Air Fryer to 380°F(193°C). Prepare the basket with olive oil, avocado oil spray, or nonstick cooking spray.

STEP 2: Place the eggs in a small bowl and whisk, and then combine with buttermilk.

STEP 3: Add the ground black pepper, salt, and all purpose flour to a rimmed shallow bowl. Add the breadcrumbs and cornmeal mixture to a third bowl.

STEP 4: Use a cutting board and a sharp knife to carefully slice the green tomatoes into 1/4 inch rounds.

STEP 5: Create a dipping station assembly line and dip tomato slices into the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, and then into the breadcrumb and cornmeal mixture.

STEP 7: Spray the tops of the coated tomatoes with avocado oil before air frying.

STEP 8: Air fry the breaded green tomatoes using the air fryer setting for 10 to 12 minutes, rotating them halfway through the cooking process, and spraying the tops after flipping.

STEP 9: When finished, the fried green tomatoes should have a crispy coating and be a beautiful golden brown color.

NOTE: This recipe was made with a basket style 5.8 quart Cosori air fryer. All air fryers can cook differently. If you’re using a different brand of air fryer, check the recipe during the cooking process to ensure you don’t need to slightly adjust the cooking time.
