Optional crusts: pizza dough, thin cut bagels, naan bread, or English muffin.

Optional spices: red pepper flakes, pesto sauce, a sprinkle of kosher salt on the crust or pizza sauce, and plain yogurt mix.

Cooking tips:

  • For a crunchier crust put a little bit of cornmeal on the bottom of a baking sheet and press down then place in your pan.
  • All of the toppings can be chopped, shredded, and cooked the night before to make the cooking process in the morning a little easier.

FAQ’s

What other ingredients can go on this dish?

If you want to make a vegan breakfast use mushrooms, minced garlic, diced sweet potatoes, caramelized onions, bell peppers, or sweet corn. Meat lovers can use Canadian bacon, breakfast sausage, chopped corn beef, or ham.

For a sweet, quick snack any time of day sprinkle granulated sugar on the crust then spread peanut butter or Nutella over the top with a dusting of powdered sugar when finished cooking.

How to store leftovers?

Allow the extra pieces to cool before placing them in an airtight container or resealable bag in your refrigerator for up to 3 days. They can be stored the same way in the freezer for 1-2 months.

Can this dish be made ahead of time?

I would not make these ahead of time because the dough will get mushy. I recommend making them on the day you are going to serve them.

The next time you are making them make an extra batch so you can freeze them and make cooking them that much easier in the future.

What other flavor profiles can go on a breakfast pizza?

A Greek pizza with egg whites, olives, black pepper, and feta cheese is one or Mexican style with eggs, sour cream, a blend of shredded cheese, chorizo, and hot sauce. A favorite of mine is a layer of sausage gravy with a few bacon bits and fresh chopped parsley on top.
