Variations

Add BBQ sauce – If you want to take the flavor of these bacon-wrapped little smokies over the top, you can add some BBQ sauce on top of the slice of bacon after these air fryer pigs have cooked.

Add heat – While this little smokies recipe already has great flavor, you can add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper to the top of these little sausages for some spiciness.

Use hot dogs – If you don’t have cocktail sausages for this recipe, you can wrap thick-cut bacon around cut-up hot dogs and make another yummy version of this classic recipe. Either make an absolutely scrumptious appetizer.

Use turkey bacon – If you want to cut down on the fat content on these air fryer bacon-wrapped little smokies, you can use turkey bacon in place of the other type.

Common Questions

Is this air fryer little smokies recipe low carb?

Adding the brown sugar makes it not low carb, but if you want to use a different sweetener or switch out for a little bit of BBQ sauce that is keto-friendly, you can easily make these mini sausages low carb!

What is the best type of bacon to use?

Regular bacon is fine to use for great recipes like this, but you do want to think about making sure that the bacon that you use is going to hold shape as it’s wrapped and cooked. The best part about this recipe is that first bite of crispy bacon and meat, so making sure that the bacon reaches all the way around and holds in place while cooking is key.

I recommend that you use thicker bacon to make this air fryer bacon wrapped lit’l smokies so that the bacon doesn’t tear, break, or fall off during the cooking process. Center-cut bacon is a good choice, too!

How do you store leftovers of these bacon-wrapped smokies?

This is one of those air fryer recipes that will likely have leftovers. Let the lil’ smokies cool down all the way, and then store them in an airtight container.
Keep the container in the fridge and eat the leftovers within 1-2 days.

Make sure that you reheat in the microwave all the way through before eating so that you get those strips of bacon nice and hot again! You can also reheat them in the air fryer for a couple of minutes as well to get them hot and delicious.
