BBQ Chicken Wings are great to serve on game day, at a party or just a casual dinner with the family. It's a fun finger food that you can personalize to your taste.
Why I Love These
I love these BBQ Chicken Wings because they are so easy that you'll want to put them on the menu rotation for a quick dinner. They're quick, simple, and always delicious.
Chicken wings are such a popular food because you can cook them quickly and there are many different flavors that you can add. I like sweet BBQ sauce but you can use spicy or Chipotle or any flavor that your favorite brand of BBQ sauce offers.
Just make sure that you have plenty of napkins because these can get messy! But some of the best foods are messy.
BBQ Chicken Wings should be crispy and the air fryer is perfect for getting them crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Frying food in grease comes out messy and heavy, but the air fryer gives it that flavor without all of the heaviness that grease adds.

What you need to make Air Fryer BBQ Chicken Wings
- Olive Oil: Low-calorie cooking oil.
- Garlic Powder: Dehydrated garlic granules, adds savory flavor to various dishes.
- Brown Sugar: Sweetener with a rich, molasses-like taste, used in baking and cooking that will enhance the flavors of these bbq wings.
- BBQ Sauce: Tangy, smoky condiment for grilling and enhancing grilled flavors. My favorite is Sweet Baby Rays.
- Chicken Wings: Small, flavorful poultry cuts often fried or grilled, popular appetizer.
With these five ingredients, you'll have a meal for the entire family in less than half an hour. I like to serve them with macaroni and cheese and a salad but they would go great with so many things like French Fries, chips, celery and carrots, corn on the cob, and green beans.
Although prepping takes a few minutes, it will be worth it and the Air Fryer BBQ Chicken Wings will come out perfect.

Expert Tips
Preheat the Air Fryer: Just like with an oven, it's a good idea to preheat your air fryer for a few minutes before adding the chicken wings. This ensures even cooking and better results.
Pat Dry and Season Well: Before placing the chicken wings in the air fryer basket, pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season them generously with your favorite spices or marinade for extra flavor.
Use a Wire Rack or Parchment Paper: To prevent the chicken wings from sticking to the air fryer basket, you can place them on a wire rack or use parchment paper with small holes. This allows for better air circulation and even cooking.
Don't Overcrowd the Basket: Arrange the chicken wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving some space between them. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and less crispy results. You may need to cook the wings in batches if necessary.
Monitor Cooking Time: Cooking times can vary depending on the size of the wings and the specific air fryer model. Start with the recommended time and temperature, but keep an eye on the wings as they cook. Shake the basket or flip the wings halfway through to ensure they cook evenly. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness (internal temperature of 165°F or 74°C).
Storage and Reheating
To store, allow the wings to cool down before placing them into an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Place the cold chicken wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer and heat for about 3-4 minutes per side, flipping halfway, until they are hot and crispy. Add additional BBQ sauce if desired.
FAQs
I use Sweet Baby Rays but you can use whatever brand of sauce and flavor that your family prefers. The flavor really doesn't matter as long as it's a good BBQ sauce that you like.
Extra moisture prevents the skins from crisping properly and crispy BBQ wings are a must. Drying them will also help dry rub soak in better.
es, you can cook frozen chicken wings in the air fryer, but they will take longer to cook. It's recommended to thaw them first for better results and more even cooking.
You can add extra flavor by seasoning the wings with spices, herbs, or a dry rub before air frying. Additionally, you can experiment with different BBQ sauces or glazes to customize the flavor to your liking.
I hope you enjoy these wings as much as we do! We love to make wings in the Air Fryer and won't even eat them any other way again.
