How to Make Banana Chips in the Air Fryer:

  1. Preheat air fryer to 350 Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.

  2. Place bananas on a cutting board and slice the bananas into thin slices, about 1⁄4 inch thick.

  3. Put the sliced bananas in a medium bowl and gently toss them in the olive oil. Mix until evenly coated.

  4. Place raw banana slices in a single layer in the basket of the air fryer. Do not overfill the air fryer with bananas.

  5. Air fry banana chips for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees F, flipping halfway through the cooking process. Until the bananas are lightly browned and crispy.

  6. Remove them from the air fryer and place them on a wire rack. Sprinkle with a little salt and let chips cool.

  7. Continue cooking bananas in batches until completely finished.

NOTES: I make this recipe in my 5.8 qt. Cosori air fryer. Depending on your air fryer, size and wattage the cook time may take 1-2 minutes additional time.

Optional seasonings:

If you are looking for even more flavor, add a pinch of chili lime salt, cayenne pepper, turmeric powder, garlic powder, black pepper, sea salt flakes or red chilli powder.

For a citrus flavor, squeeze lemon juice or lime juice on slices.

You can also add an extra bit of salt depending on your personal preference.

Cooking tips:

If using thick slices of bananas, cooking times will vary, so add an extra 2-4 more minutes.

Because bananas can brown quickly, if cutting batch into portions, place the raw banana slices on a baking sheet or baking dish, and squeeze with lemon juice to prevent browning.

Substitutions:

Instead of olive oil, use refined coconut oil (which does not have a coconut taste), brown sugar, avocado oil, cinnamon sugar, coconut oil spray, maple syrup or coconut sugar to make this sweet treat even better.

FAQ’S

What is the best type of banana to use?

Any type of banana works for this recipe. However, firm bananas are perfect to make these chips, so avoid overripe bananas or ones that have brown spots

How do I store leftover banana chips?

Store leftover chips in an airtight container or resealable storage bag at room temperature for up to 3 weeks. Storing them wrapped in a paper towel helps absorb any excess moisture and will keep them crunchy for longer. Freeze chips in an air-tight container for up to a month.

What can be served with these banana chips?

Although these air fryer banana chips are really good on their own, they can be dipped in guacamole, salsa, yogurt sauce or onion dip.

Sweet chips are delicious when dipped in chocolate sauce, peanut butter caramel sauce or a citrus juice sauce. Or, crumble chips over vanilla ice cream or over a bowl of fresh fruit.
