These Air Fryer bacon pigs in a blanket are the perfect appetizer or snack to feature on your holiday table.

If you love the classic Air Fryer pigs in a blanket, you’ve got to try this elevated version too! They’re soft, juicy, salty and crispy all at the same time, making them an absolutely irresistible treat that everyone’s going to keep reaching for.

Soft, juicy and savory sausages get wrapped in a buttery, crispy crust and topped with crunchy bacon crumbles in this delightful recipe. Every time I make these, they get devoured in minutes- just like my Air Fryer bacon wrapped hot dogs.

Plus, air frying them is SO much easier and hassle-free than the traditional baking process. It’s always such a win! Sometimes, I also take things a step further and top them with my homemade everything bagel seasoning for an extra crunch.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Mini hot dogs: I used mini beef hot dogs here, but you can also use cocktail sausages or any other mini sausages of your choice.
  • Crumbled bacon: For that crispy, salty kick. I like to crush up some of my Air Fryer bacon and use it here.
  • Butter: Melted butter, to brush over the assembled pigs in a blanket.
  • Crescent dough: The base. I love using the original Pillsbury here.

See recipe card for quantities.

Variations

  • If you can’t find crescent roll dough, feel free to use puff pastry sheets instead. They take almost the same time in the Air Fryer, puff up nicely and create a nice crispy and flaky exterior around the sausages- just like with my Air Fryer sausage rolls.
  • For some cheesy deliciousness, you can top the assembled pigs in a blanket with shredded cheddar cheese instead of bacon crumbles- like I did when I made my Air Fryer chili cheese dogs.

How to Make Air Fryer Bacon Pigs in a Blanket

Start by preheating your Air Fryer to 340°F and melting the butter in a microwave.

  1. Press the crescent roll dough into a flat sheet, sealing the seams together. Divide the dough into 24 equal-sized squares (large enough to fold the hot dogs about 1 ½ inches on each side).
  1. Place a small amount of the bacon crumbles in the middle of each dough square (just enough to form a bacon layer under the hot dog and prevent overfilling the dough).
  1. Set a hot dog diagonally on top of the bacon crumbles.
  1. Fold the dough around the hot dog (like you would close an envelope), and lightly pinch the edges to seal the dough.
  1. Brush the outside of the wrapped pigs in a blanket with melted butter to help the bacon stick and give a nice golden-brown color when cooked.
  1. Immediately sprinkle additional bacon crumbles on top of the pigs in a blanket and lightly press the bacon down onto the dough (so that it sticks).
  1. Arrange in a greased Air Fryer basket in a single layer, leaving room between them.
  1. Air fry for 8-19 minutes or until the dough looks golden brown and the bacon is crispy.

Serving Ideas & Suggestions

These crispy air fried bacon pigs in a blanket taste incredible on their own or paired with a nice dipping sauce. You can keep it simple and use some ketchup or mustard, or even try some maple syrup or hot honey for a bit of a sweet twist.

And if you have some extra bacon and love making bacon-wrapped appetizers, try my Air Fryer bacon wrapped smokies, Air Fryer bacon wrapped corn dogs and Air Fryer bacon wrapped pineapple– all of these take under 20 minutes to make, and are perfect as a snack or party finger food.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • If you can’t find mini hot dogs, simply cut your regular hot dogs into small chunks, such that they fit the squares nicely.
  • Got some leftovers? Use them up to make some Air Fryer mini corn dogs.
  • Don’t press the dough too hard when you’re bringing the edges together- if you do, the dough may not puff correctly around the hot dog.
  • For extra flavor, you can use crushed Air Fryer candied bacon or even some Air Fryer turkey bacon instead of regular bacon.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz mini beef hot dogs
  • 1 tube refrigerated crescent dough
  • 1/2 cup crispy bacon, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

  • Press the crescent roll dough into a flat sheet, sealing the seams together. Divide the dough into 24 equal-sized squares (large enough to fold the hot dogs about 1 ½ inches on each side).
  • Place a small amount of the bacon crumbles in the middle of each dough square (just enough to form a bacon layer under the hot dog and prevent overfilling the dough).
  • Set a hot dog diagonally on top of the bacon crumbles.
  • Fold the dough around the hot dog (like you would close an envelope), and lightly pinch the edges to seal the dough.
  • Brush the outside of the wrapped pigs in a blanket with melted butter to help the bacon stick and give a nice golden-brown color when cooked.
  • Immediately sprinkle additional bacon crumbles on top of the pigs in a blanket and lightly press the bacon down onto the dough (so that it sticks).
  • Arrange in a greased Air Fryer basket in a single layer, leaving room between them.
  • Air fry for 8-19 minutes or until the dough looks golden brown and the bacon is crispy.

Notes

  • 8 minutes in the air fryer and 14 minutes in the oven yielded the best crust in every test.
  • I used Lil Smokies because that is what is sold locally in my grocery store, but you can use any mini hot dog you can find!
  • When cutting the dough, I lay a hot dog diagonally and then cut a square around it. I then use that square as a template to cut rows and columns.
