Ingredients:

  • bread – I like to use texas toast, but there are several types of bread you can use.
  • eggs
  • milk
  • cinnamon and sugar

This simple recipe is one of my favorites because you don’t have to have anything special on hand. It’s made with normal easy ingredients you probably already have on hand. It’s a perfect easy breakfast the whole family enjoys.

Tips

I typically allow my bread to sit out for a couple of hours or overnight to get “stale” before using it in this recipe. But it’s not required.

Substitute the milk with almond milk for additional flavor.

How to Make French Toast in the Air Fryer

In a small bowl, add the eggs and milk and whisk together. Pour the egg mixture onto a rimmed shallow bowl or plate for easier dipping.

Take a slice of bread and dip it into the egg mixture, coating both sides.

Add the cinnamon sugar to each piece of bread, and then place the bread slices in a single layer in the prepared air fryer basket.

Air fry the French toast for 8-10 minutes at 390 degrees Fahrenheit, carefully flipping the toast after 5 minutes. Depending on the size of the basket or the size of the air fryer, you may have to cook these in two batches. Check after 8 minutes as each air fryer is different and can cook differently. You may need to add more time or remove the french toast earlier.

Once golden brown and fully cooked, remove the toast from the air fryer, add an extra dash of the cinnamon-sugar mixture, and top with fresh berries, a pat of butter, confectioners’ sugar, and maple syrup.

Note: I use the Cosori air fryer for this recipe. The size of your air fryer can change the cook time. It’s a good idea to test a small batch to make sure the cooking time doesn’t need to be adjusted. The thickness of your bread will also dictate the cooking time. If using thick bread, add additional cook time.

This is such a quick and delicious breakfast and it disappears so fast! It’s my new favorite way to make breakfast.

Substitutions and FAQs

Can I substitute the milk in this recipe?

You can substitute the type of milk if needed. Consider using almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk in place of whole milk.

What type of bread is best to use when making french toast?

I love to use Texas toast, but you can also use brioche bread, french bread, or any favorite types and slices of bread you like best.

What’s the best way to prepare the air fryer basket when making french toast?

I think the best type of preparation for the basket is by using a spray bottle with olive oil. Even with a non-stick coating, the egg on the bread will want to stick to the liner of the basket. I don’t typically use cooking spray, and you can check out other oils that are best in the air fryer. You can also use air fryer parchment paper.

What are other toppings I can use on French toast?

I love to use toppings such as fresh fruit (bananas, strawberries, blueberries) and sprinkle a little brown sugar on top. I’ve also made this french toast and topped it with whipped cream,  chocolate chips, coconut, and almond slivers. There are tons of options, so let your taste buds guide you.

You can also change the flavor a bit by adding a teaspoon vanilla extract to the egg and milk mixture.

I hope you enjoy this kid-friendly breakfast recipe as much as my family does.

CAN I USE A SMALL GLASS PLATE IN THE AIR FRYER WHEN MAKING FRENCH TOAST

    1. Jen West says:

Yes! Anything that can be used in an oven or a microwave can also be used in an air fryer. (If it fits!)

Can I use these recipes with the Cuisinart Air Fryer?

    1. Jen West says:

You can use these recipes with any air fryer. You may need to adjust the cook time with your brand of air fryer, but that is because all air fryers cook a little differently.

  3. Shayna says:

Sounds delish. But, in my family this is 1, maybe 2 servings. Lol!
