Variations
Use different flavors of bacon - Smoky bacon, thin bacon, thick bacon, or any piece of bacon that you have at home will work with this easy appetizer.
Use creamy goat cheese - Adding tangy goat cheese or a little blue cheese can add an even more salty taste. Both pair well with the salty bacon and the sweet dates.
Use turkey bacon - If you want to cut down on the fat content and salt content, using turkey bacon is a great choice.
How to Serve
These are so simple to serve! You can add them to a charcuterie board for a fun treat or serve them up on a platter at your next party.
If you want to try and pair them with another type of food, air fryer coconut shrimp are never a bad idea!
How to Store
I do think that this delicious appetizer is best eaten fresh, but you can always store it for later. Let the stuffed date cool down all the way, and then add any leftovers to an airtight container. Place the container in the fridge and keep it cool. Eat within 2 days for the best flavor.
To get that crispy bacon on the outside when reheating, pop them back into the air fryer basket to reheat! You can also reheat it in the oven or the microwave.
Common Questions
Will regular dates offset the saltiness of the bacon?
You will want to be sure that you buy large dates that are comparable in size to the slice of bacon. The bigger the date, the better that the salty taste of the bacon will not overpower the sweetness of the dates.
When should I serve this tasty appetizer?
A holiday season is always a great option for serving, but the best way is whenever you choose! I find that it's a great alternative to other difficult appetizers because party guests tend to remember this one - and talk about it more!
There's just something about combining those whole dates and soft cheese that has everyone wanting more bites!
