I love making quick and easy recipes and this black bean burger is one of my favorites. While I like to use frozen black bean patties, you can also make this recipe from scratch.

I love to top this with mashed avocado seasoned with salt, pepper, and a little chili powder for extra flavor.

  • black bean patties
  • hamburger bun
  • salt
  • pepper
  • chili powder
  • avocado
  • olive oil spray

OPTIONAL Ingredients:

  • lettuce
  • cheese
  • tomato
  • onion

How to Make Black Bean Burgers in the Air Fryer:

  1. Place the frozen black bean patties in a single layer in the air fryer basket.

  2. Air fry the black bean burgers at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, flipping the black bean patties halfway through the cook time.

  3. Mash the avocado in a small bowl. Add the salt pepper, and chili powder into the mashed avocado. Mix well.

  4. Remove the cooked black bean burgers from the air fryer and top with the avocado mixture and any additional toppings before serving.

From Scratch Black Bean Burger Recipe:

You’ll need a few extra ingredients on hand if you’re making black bean burgers from scratch. Ingredients needed are 16 ounces of canned black beans (rinsed and drained), 1 egg, 1/2 cup bread crumbs, 2 tablespoons chopped red onion, 1 Tablespoon chopped green bell pepper, 1 teaspoon chili powder, salt, and pepper to taste.

Mash the black beans in a bowl with a fork or potato masher. Add the onion and pepper to a food processor and pulse until mixed. Add the vegetables to a large bowl with the black beans and stir until combined. Stir in the breadcrumbs until combined.

In a separate bowl add the egg and seasonings and whisk together. Add in the black bean mixture.

Evenly create 4 black bean burgers with the mixture. Place the uncooked patties in the basket of the air fryer and spray the tops with olive oil. Air fry at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes of cooking time, flipping the patties halfway through the cooking process.

Ingredients 

Homemade Black Bean Burger

  • 16 ounces black beans
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 Tablespoons red onion, chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon bell pepper, green
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 4 black bean burger patties

Mashed Avocado Topping

  • 1 medium avocado
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Optional Toppings

  • 2 slices tomato
  • lettuce
  • 2 slices cheese, American
  • 2 slices onion

Instructions
