Ingredients:

Ingredients needed to make Texas twinkies on a marble table
  • jalapeños
  • cream cheese
  • cooked brisket
  • bacon
  • bbq sauce

How to make Air Fryer Texas Twinkies

  1. Cut the stem off each jalapeño and then use a paring knife to clean out the cavity of each jalapeno, remove all of the seeds and membrane and rinse the jalapeños.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese and brisket, stirring together.

  3. Spoon cream cheese and brisket mixture, filling the jalapeno.

  4. Wrap a piece of bacon around the stuffed pepper and secure it with a toothpick, if necessary.

  5. Place the stuffed peppers in the air fryer’s basket, working in batches if necessary. Be sure they aren’t overlapping each other in the basket.

  6. Air fry at 370 degrees Fahrenheit for 12-15 minutes until the bacon is cooked to your desired crispness.

Variations

Add ingredients to your cream cheese filling – If you want to add some extra flavor to this Texas Twinkie recipe, go for it! You can chip up a slice of bacon and add it to the mixture, or use flavored bacon like Hormel’s. You can also mix in some Monterey jack cheese as well.

How to serve

You can serve this in a variety of favorite ways. I like to cut the stem end off, stuff, and cook and leave as a whole jalapeno because taking a bite that first time is truly a fantastic flavor. The best way to serve it is to let it cool a bit on the plate and then either pick up and bite into it or cut it with a knife and eat it in pieces.

How to store

These jalapeno poppers are perfect to cook in your air fryer basket and then easily store them as leftovers. If you want to enjoy the next day again, just let the large peppers cool to room temperature and then store them in an airtight container.

To reheat, add a single layer to the air fryer basket and warm up. These are best to eat within 2-3 days.

FAQs

Do the size of the peppers matter when cooking them?

They do because you want them to cook all the way. I use larger jalapeno peppers and cut off the top of the jalapeno to stuff it, making it easier to cook. I also try and use the same-sized peppers so that they cook at the same time.

Can I use thick-cut bacon for this recipe?

You bet! I like to add as much meat as possible, so the thicker the bacon, the better! But if you want to use thin-cut bacon, that works fine too! Choose whatever bacon strips you’d like. Just keep in mind that may affect cooking times.

What is the easiest way to cut off the top of the pepper?

Using a sharp pairing knife is the best way to make a straight and curved line on the top of the pepper.
